The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.

But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

REVIEW

Meet Alessandra (who suspiciously has the same name as me this poor Hufflepuff). She is a beauty, has an amazing fashion style...and she is a murderer. And she has a plan! She will seduce the Shadow King, marry him and then kill him in order to become the Queen!

Simple plan, right? Right.

As Alessandra navigates through court politics and mysteries behind the Shadow King's past, she will discover that even murderous intents can not be stronger than growing attraction.

I enjoyed this book! It was fast-paced, with action and glitter and fashion and Alessandra was a character that while I could not relate to, I found her actions partly agreeable since the society in this book is quite...well sexist. I enjoyed the banter, the power of the Shadow King and while I didn't expect the ending I really wished that there could be more books in this series! I did notice a Greek mention here and there and I'd love to have this world explored more.
