Blog Tour+ARC Review: "Royally Yours" (Royally #4) by Emma Chase

Princess Lenora Celeste Beatrice Arabella Pembrook had an unusual childhood. She was raised to be a Queen—the first Queen of Wessco. It’s a big deal. When she’s crowned at just nineteen, the beautiful young monarch is prepared to rule. She’s charming, clever, confident and cunning. What she isn’t…is married. It’s her advising council’s first priority. It’s what Parliament is demanding, and what her people want. Lenora has no desire to tie herself to a man—particularly one who only wants her for her crown. But compromises must be made and royals must do their duty. Even Queens. Especially them.
** Years ago, Edward Langdon Richard Dorian Rourke, walked away from his title and country. Now he’s an adventurer—climbing mountains, exploring jungles, going wherever he wants, when he wants—until family devotion brings him home. And a sacred promise keeps him there. To Edward, the haughty, guarded little Queen is intriguing, infuriating…and utterly captivating. Wanting her just might drive him mad—or become his greatest adventure. **
Within the cold, stone walls of the royal palace—mistrust threatens, wills clash, and an undeniable, passionate love will change the future of the monarchy forever. Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story. This is theirs.

REVIEW

I received an E-ARC on exchange for an honest review.

I seriously enjoyed cthis book. It was far more emotional than the previous in the series and I know now what Lenora has truly been through.

Double ARC Review: "Storm of Locusts" (The Sixth World #2) by Rebecca Roanhorse & "Paper Girl" by Cindy R. Wilson

Paper Girl by Cindy R. Wilson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

I haven’t left my house in over a year. My doctor says it’s social anxiety, but I know the only things that are safe are made of paper. My room is paper. My world is paper. Everything outside is fire. All it would take is one spark for me to burst into flames. So I stay inside. Where nothing can touch me.

Then my mom hires a tutor. Jackson. This boy I had a crush on before the world became too terrifying to live in. Jackson’s life is the complete opposite of mine, and I can tell he’s got secrets of his own. But he makes me feel things. Makes me want to try again. Makes me want to be brave. I can almost taste the outside world. But so many things could go wrong, and all it takes is one spark for everything I love to disappear…

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Zoe lives in her family's penthouse...and hasn't left it for a year. Making galaxies from paper and enjoying her online winning as a chess master, and having one online friend, she tries to gain back her self-confidence, because she wants to go to her sister's graduation and because she wants to become a better person.

Then there's Jackson; homeless, but nobody knows it, who becomes Zoe's math and Physics tutor as also something more.

This book feels like it doesn't get the attention it deserves. The cover first caught my eye and then the summary. Only one another similar book made me so emotional and that was *Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall*. Both characters have their own struggles but you can't miss the humor, the emotions and the tender moments. Also, Zoe's family tries to be supportive in every way and also help her through her own fight.

Also, Jackson was a sweetie with his smiles and support. And the beauty of this book is that both protagonists deal with their families and try to work through their own past.
Truly a beautiful book!

Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Kai and Caleb Goodacre have been kidnapped just as rumors of a cult sweeping across the reservation leads Maggie and Hastiin to investigate an outpost, and what they find there will challenge everything they’ve come to know in this action-packed sequel to Trail of Lightning.

It’s been four weeks since the bloody showdown at Black Mesa, and Maggie Hoskie, Diné monster hunter, is trying to make the best of things. Only her latest bounty hunt has gone sideways, she’s lost her only friend, Kai Arviso, and she’s somehow found herself responsible for a girl with a strange clan power.

Then the Goodacre twins show up at Maggie’s door with the news that Kai and the youngest Goodacre, Caleb, have fallen in with a mysterious cult, led by a figure out of Navajo legend called the White Locust. The Goodacres are convinced that Kai’s a true believer, but Maggie suspects there’s more to Kai’s new faith than meets the eye. She vows to track down the White Locust, then rescue Kai and make things right between them.

Her search leads her beyond the Walls of Dinétah and straight into the horrors of the Big Water world outside. With the aid of a motley collection of allies, Maggie must battle body harvesters, newborn casino gods and, ultimately, the White Locust himself. But the cult leader is nothing like she suspected, and Kai might not need rescuing after all. When the full scope of the White Locust’s plans are revealed, Maggie’s burgeoning trust in her friends, and herself, will be pushed to the breaking point, and not everyone will survive.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Brace yourselves ladies and gentleman for THIS WAS AN AMAZING RIDE!

Trail of Lightning was a big surprise for me this year. I always loved mythology, especially the stories from both the Native Americans and the civilizations in South America. And the first book of the series swept me away in a world where the Tribes have built a Wall after THE apocalypse with the help of their gods and medicine men and where a young woman Maggie becomes entangled with tricksters and heroes and one silver-eyed man.

(by the way, Kai deserves hugs and love! My beautiful, genius man!)

In the second book, a series of disturbing events, involving locusts (ugh), lead Maggie, Rissa and Ben, a new character to join forces in order to bring down, a lunatic cult leader, save Dinetah and also Kai. Also, the ladies on the book's cover? I realized from where the scene is inspired from and you really are going to agree with me when you read THAT chapter. It's a testament that humanity can become deranged after everything is lost and every human life has a literal price.

The beauty of this book was not only the amazing action, the expanded world building or even the gods. It was Maggie and how she grew as a character, making friends and having allies and trying to lean into them as they helped each other. She matures and becomes far better than the closed-off character she was in the first book.

And that made her even more lovable to me. At the same time, every scene with those bugs had me crawling and shivering and wishing I had insect repellant with me every time!

There's no doubt that this book is going to be amazing when it will be released next April. It was only I, the mad blogger, who wanted to know the sequel and now has to wait maybe until 2020 until the third book is released! *laughs with tears*

Blog Tour+Excerpt+ARC Review: "Fall" (VIP #3) by Kristen Callihan

The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways.
In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip. Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream.
So I kissed him.
And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands. Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor. An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room. Clearly, avoidance is key.
Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun. Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything. All we have to do is trust enough to fall.

EXCERPT:

The air between us shifts. I’m filled with a strange giddiness, wanting to laugh for the fun of it, but I’m also too warm, my limbs oddly heavy as if simple movements might be too much for me. His tone turns soft and cajoling, teasing the truth out of me.
“Are you going to tell me what you do?” When I say nothing, the corners of his eyes crinkle. “I see. You’re going to torture me a bit.” The warm, fuzzy feeling grows as I shrug. “Torture feels apropos in this scenario.” He hums again, taking another step toward me. “What makes you think I won’t like being tortured by you?” The heat of his body and the scent of his skin makes my head light and my pulse pound. How did it get to this point where the highlight of my day is flirting with Jax Blackwood? Despite the thrill, I know I’m in over my head. I haven’t gone out on a date in months because I form attachments, I get emotional, and then I hurt when they inevitably leave. And this man will leave. He is as bright and fleeting as a camera flash. I’ll be left with the image of him seared into my memory and nothing more. I tell myself all of this, the voice in my head as stern as possible. But it doesn’t make me back away. It doesn’t stop my body from somehow straining toward his without even moving. Because it might be stupid of me, but I want to feel something that isn’t planned. Something, for however briefly, that’s real.
He’s too attuned to me not to notice. John’s lids lower as his attention slides down my body before easing back up to my face. Slowly, he rests his forearm on the wall beside my head. “Tell me, Stella,” he murmurs. “No,” I whisper back, flirting, even though I shouldn’t. His biceps bunch as he leans in, a smile dancing on his lips. “Tell.” My breasts graze his chest, and I feel it in my toes. “You’re crowding me.” I hate how breathy I sound. “Can’t help it.” His voice is a rumble, the heat of his breath playing over my skin. He ducks his head, drawing close until our lips nearly brush, and when he speaks again, his tone is almost conversational, except for the husky quality that touches deep within my core. “You smell like strawberries. Fucking delicious.” My lids flutter, and I swallow hard. “Ordinarily, I’d call you out on that cliché but since I’ve been eating strawberries, you aren’t exactly wrong.” His chuckle is slow and easy, as he eases back and his gaze slowly travels over my face. “Were they sweet, Stella Button?”
He’s looking at my mouth like he might try to find out. My lips tremble in response, and John tracks the movement, his breathing getting deeper, faster. “You have two freckles on your lips. One on the top lip and one on the bottom corner.” Those damn freckles. They were the bane of my adolescence. I hid them with lipstick and silently cursed whenever someone mentioned them. Freckles don’t have any feelings, but I swear it’s as if he’s touching them. “You’re just noticing this?” I try to make it sound like a joke, but it comes out weak and thready. His own lips quirk. “Oh, I noticed. It’s distracting as hell. They’re like two little dots of butter toffee. Makes me want to lick them, get a taste.” Oh, God. Lick them, please.
I can almost feel it. I want to feel it. No. Bad Stella. Behave. John’s lips part a fraction like he just might take that taste. “Back off,” I whisper. And yet somehow my traitorous hands find their way to his sides, running over the waistband of his jeans, holding him there. John makes a sound deep in his throat and tilts his hips, pressing them against mine. A distinctly thick bulge nudges my belly. Both of us lose a breath, and then he’s closer, his cheek touching my temple.
“You’ll have to let me go first.” My thumbs slide under the edge of his shirt and find smooth, taut skin. A tremor goes through his body. I try to think, search for what the hell we’ve been talking about. His lips brush the crest of my cheek as he murmurs against my skin. “Tell me what you do, Stella. You know you want to.” My smile feels illicit. Somehow the action is directly tied to all my happy parts, making them draw hot and tight. “I don’t think I do.”
Another hum. “Liar. You’re dying to.”

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

One of my most anticipated NA contemporary books has finally been released! I was glad this was the story of Jax and how he dealt with depression and everything in between.

His story, told by his own POV and also the second POV of Stella was heartbreaking, sweet and every bit of emotion I wanted to read in a Kristen Callihan book. How hard the struggle was and how understanding and love can mend even the most broken people.

Also Stella was an amazing character! Sweet very funny and smart I liked her voice and how her own story made her as lonely as Jax was. The cameo appearances of Scott and the other members of the group were a great addition! I can't wait for the next book to come out! I think is Rye's turn now. ;)

Blog Tour+ARC Review: "Shadow and Ice" (Gods of War #1) by Gena Showalter

Gena Showalter, the New York Times bestselling author who brought you the Lords of the Underworld, introduces a scorching new paranormal romance series… Gods of War.

Knox of Iviland has spent his life competing in the All Wars, where vicious warriors with supernatural powers fight to the death to claim new realms. One winner takes everything—and all losers die. When a fearsome weapon imprisons every combatant in ice, centuries pass without progress…until she walks in.

Vale London craves a fun arctic getaway with her foster sister before settling down to open a bakery. Street-tough but vulnerable, she is unprepared to find ancient gods escaping a frozen cave—merciless beings who target her when she inadvertently enters their war.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ah, how great is to combine a far deadlier Hunger Games-style war and immortals! And worlds beyond your imagination which are not exactly sci-fi but not completely Paranormal either!

Vale and her sister, N0la are snow-stranded in the wilderness and they find shelter in a cave where they find their way into a long-standing war.
The All-War.

From there both sisters become entangled with battles, immortals who are hell-bent into destroying each other in order to win for their rulers.

And as Vale partners with Knox in order both to fight together, save Vale's sister and discover what powers Vale has, everything will become even more complicated.
What I loved on this book was the pure action. It felt like a movie you couldn't stop watching as everyone fought with every imaginable weapon! Knox was an amazing fighter as also Vale despite her need to train.

At the same time, I also enjoyed the refreshing plot and the vast possibilities of how this series can evolve. I kept counting in my mind how many books there might be here and the number even went up to 20.

Also, the heated level of swoon-ness here is scorching. While I still have my qualms into how Knox and Vale came to become a couple, and also how both became idiotic over each other (thus the missing star), I enjoyed their banter and the way they slowly opened up to each other. Knox's background story was tragic too.

One last part I am anxiously waiting over will surely be the second book where Bane, Zion and Nola will be featured. And while Zion has a brotherly role in the book, he may be hiding more than he shows.

EXCERPT:

I clear my throat. “While I was eating my ice cream—” He snorts, but remains tense. “I thought about how you looked familiar to me.”
“It was the guilt haunting you.” “Or … And I’m just throwing this out there. You’re Jax Blackwood.” He actually flinches. “Fuck. You recognized me.” “It was bound to happen. John? Really?” His chin tips in a pugnacious angle. “It’s my name. John is … me. Jax is who I am onstage.” I picture him performing, all electric energy and raw passion and sheer talent. It’s a sight to behold. Hell, a couple of really hot fantasies have been induced by that sight. While I’m lost in a teen fantasy, his eyes dart around like he’s expecting someone to pop out from behind a snow mound and take his picture. Then his gaze snags on me. My expression must be slightly punch drunk, because his entire body leans away from mine. Not exactly flattering to realize he’s afraid I’ll try to lick his face or something. I snap my gaping mouth closed. “Oh, calm down. It’s not like I’m going to start squealing and try to grab your junk.” His expression lightens a little. “I think if you grabbed my junk, I’d be the one squealing.” “True. I have surprisingly strong hands.”
When he stares at me in horror, I hold them up and wiggle my fingers. “Yoga. It’s highly effective.”
“My balls just flinched in terror.” “Consider yourself warned.”
He snorts but then glances at our building. “You really live here?” “Do you really think I hunted you down?” John—because I can’t seem to think of him as Jax—runs his hand through his damp hair, which makes his biceps bunch and twitch. “Yeah … that does sound crazy.” Crazy. This whole situation is. One day, I’m offered a four-month home in a dream condo, the next I’m standing on my stoop talking to a rock star. The biggest legend of my generation. I honestly don’t know how I’m not stammering right now. “I can’t believe we’re neighbors,” I say without thinking. His green eyes glint in the afternoon light, but he pauses and looks at me more closely. “You know, not to sound conceited here, but you’re kind of leering at me right now.” My chin snaps up like I’ve been hit, even as my body flushes with embarrassment.
Shit. I totally had been leering. No, not leering. But I had been staring at him in awe.
Ugh. “Well, you do sound conceited. I was simply making polite eye contact.”
Liar McLiar-Face.

ARC Review: "Seas of Crimson Silk" by Emma Hamm

Seas of Crimson Silk by Emma Hamm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from Goodreads

A dragon can be loyal forever, if you tame her first. But Sigrid would sooner be dead than tamed.

Dragon shifter Sigrid of Wildewyn has spent her life in a cage, quite literally. Whether she's hidden from her own people, or masked so they cannot see her face, she's dedicated her life to her country and king. REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Step aside for the new fantasy of the year! Filled with intrigue, plots, murders, romance, and secrets! What more do you want? Oh, and it hosts diverse cultural and ethnic groups which make the series even more promising!

Sigrid of Wildewyn is a Beastkin and a dragon, the last of her kind. When she is forced to marry Nadir, Sultan of Bymere in order to seal a tentative alliance between their nations, it will be the spark which will either create peace or plunge them into war.

I'll let you guess what happens.

The enjoying part of the book was the detail Emma gave into her descriptions. From the mountainous forests to the sandhills and from open skies to stifling castles, the story unfolds through a rich scenery where diverse groups live and struggle. There were some parts of the book that made me breathless and others where I felt that especially Nadir should have avoided.

Nadir as a character is quite immature and doesn't have at first the confidence to do what he must. I'm pretty sure that his advisor will do something in the next book. Sigrid, on the other hand, is strong, with fighting skills and empathetic to those around her. She is not perfect, but through every heroine, I've read this year, she is the most mature for her position.

And don't let me start on the dragon part! Because Sigrid's dragon as a description was magnificent and so beautiful!
Overall, this book is a great introduction o a new series which just like the rest of Emma's books will be unforgettable!

About the author:

I started dreaming of stories when I was just a little girl, and immediately ran upstairs to act them out the way they should have happened. Dreaming became reality.

Reality became books.

About the author:

Choosing to write a book was one of the hardest and easiest things I have ever done. I wrote my first book because I had hit a wall. Writing with friends had no longer satisfied my need to create, and I worried that if I didn’t try to write a book I never would. Suddenly, within a year of working on a Beauty and the Beast inspired story, I was a self published author.
I am inspired by the works of authors like Clive Barker, Mark Danielewski, Patricia Briggs, Clare B. Dunkle, and so many more. This site is meant to be a connection between me, the people who read my books, and the people who I admire. You may post on anything that I post on this site and I will enjoy hearing from you!

Thank you all for your support, love, and kindness.

ARC Review: "Sherwood" by Meagan Spooner

Sherwood by Meagan Spooner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Robin of Locksley is dead.

When news comes that he's fallen in battle at the King's side in the Holy Land, Maid Marian doesn’t know how she’ll go on. Betrothed to Robin, she was free to be herself, to flout the stifling rules of traditional society and share an equal voice with her beloved when it came to caring for the people of her land.

Now Marian is alone, with no voice of her own. The people of Locksley, persecuted by the Sheriff of Nottingham, are doomed to live in poverty or else face death by hanging. The dreadful Guy of Gisborne, the Sherriff’s right hand, wishes to step into Robin’s shoes as Lord of Locksley, and Marian’s fiancé. Society demands that she accept her fate, and watch helplessly as her people starve.

When Marian dons Robin's green cloak, and takes up his sword and bow, she never intended that anyone should mistake her for Robin, returned from the Holy Land as a vigilante. She never intended that the masked, cloaked figure she created should stand as a beacon of hope and justice to peasant and noble alike. She never intended to become a legend.

But all of Nottingham is crying out for a savior. So Marian must choose to make her own fate and become her own hero...

Robin Hood.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

I know that I am way over my head. I mean I have my October TBR list, ARCs for November AND I'm waiting for my Muse of Nightmares copy and Kingdom of Ash. But NOOOO, I had to read to read this book, because it's ROBIN HOOD and second because Meagan Spooner won me over with her first book of retelling, Hunted (which had featured Beauty & the Beast).

Robin of Locksley is dead.

The first line gripped me from the start. And as Marian tries to keep bother her father's and Robin's lands out of debt, since our dear Sherrif of Nottingham begins raising the taxes, she will discover that being a woman can mean more than being a proper lady.
A chance encounter with one of the minor characters will lead her to take the role of Robin Hood and try to steal from the rich and give to the poor. We also have Little John, Alan and few more who join later in Marian's quest, as she tries to balance her secret identity, keep her role as a grieving woman and also fight the tentative courtship of Sir Guy of Gisborne.

The Sheriff's right-hand.

Meagan's writing as beautifully descriptive, encompassing not only the world-building but also the characters perspectives. Told in third POV, the story takes place both in Sherwood but also in the known cities of the story. Marian, in contrast with everything you know about her in movies and the Disney film, knows archery, even better than Robin, and also how to fight.

But the biggest surprise was Sir Guy. I loved how he evolved through the book and how he completely made me like him as a character despite how Marian saw him through her eyes.
The scenes of horse riding and chasing were amazing and movie worthy!

If you want to enjoy something different in a story which is well-known but also have a fill of woman power, then this book is for you! ;)
