One moment of recklessness will change their worlds

Smart. Responsible. That's seventeen-year-old Breanna's role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyberbully's line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas "Razor" Turner into her life.

Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don't belong. But when he learns she's being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it's time to step outside the rules.

And so they make a pact: he'll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she'll help him seek answers to the mystery that's haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they're both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they're going from here.

EXCREPT

“This is going to be the best night of our lives,” announces Reagan. Addison sits at the desk in front of me and Reagan’s to the left of Addison.
I check the clock on the wall over our English teacher’s desk. In exactly two minutes, the bell will ring and the first day of my senior year will begin. It’s not only the first day of school, but also the first Friday of the school year.
Three years ago, Addison, Reagan, and I promised we’d do something crazy on the first Friday of our senior year. After notifying High Grove that I declined their scholarship, crazy is exactly what I need. “Are you sure your parents aren’t going to check on us?”
“Trust me, everything will be golden.” Reagan uses the camera on her phone to fix stray pieces of her dirty blond hair. She curled it this morning and much to her displeasure the curls are falling out. “Has Cass started following you yet? I told her you created a Bragger account.”
I sigh and Addison scowls. She’s less than thrilled with my lack of excitement. I currently have twenty-five followers. It’s better than none, but not nearly reaching Addison and Reagan’s totals. Not sure how this whole social media thing is supposed to be fun. It’s like being back in elementary school and waiting to be picked for kickball.
“To gain followers you must post something.” Addison has this teacher to pupil reprimand going on, and it’s scary on her. “Don’t make me start posting for you, brat. You’re the one that wanted to join the world. Reagan and I are trying to catch you up on how to participate in the land of the living.”
“Because everyone will love reading how I was up doing dishes until midnight,” I say.
“Tell them you were doing it naked and half the boys in school will follow you.” Reagan tosses me a sly smirk and I laugh. She’s always saying things that push the envelope. “Tell them you’ll post the picture if you reach five hundred followers. Watch your stats climb, girl.”
“That would be interesting.” A new voice joins the conversation.
I see the jeans first. Actually I see a rip in the jeans, and that rip is an inch above the knee, and I’m staring at a very muscular male thigh. I enter this weird zone, because there’s this sinking feeling of where this is heading, and ominous sirens are sounding off.
It’s like being stuck in slow motion as I glance up. My heart stops. Starts. And when it starts again, I find I can’t breathe. Golden hair that’s a little long on top. Light blue eyes drinking me in. All I see is a whole lot of gorgeous…and dangerous.
It’s Thomas freaking Turner. He wears the same leather vest that he had on the other night, and underneath it is a black T-shirt with the name of an old-school metal band. My eyes automatically scan his patches and I wonder which one is the warning that he carries a gun.
His fingers skim my desk as he strides past. There are small cuts on his knuckles, and the skin on his hands look rough—like him. For some reason, I find that attractive. It reminds me of him hunched in front of his bike yesterday as he was repairing his machine. The steady way he moved. The serious set of his face. The way the muscles in his arms flexed as he worked.
“Hello, Breana.” Thomas’s voice is deep, smooth and feels like a caress along my skin.

Blog Tour Review: "Personal Apocalypse" by Nazarea Andrews

Personal Apocalypse by Nazarea Andrews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Josiah grew up in a dying world. The Holdout survived, but when you are the son of Sylvia Cragen, you give up delusions early. He knew that they would die bloody--it wasn't a matter of if. Only when.
Parker shouldn't be alive. He should have died long before scouts from the Last Holdout rescued him. And he knows better than to believe that sailing away from the safety of the Holdout is a good idea.
Now, without the Holdout to protect them, all of his nightmares are coming true. Josiah is just crazy enough to believe that a fresh start is a good thing. But Parker has lived as prey, hunted by zombies and survivors before--and he knows that no one really survives. In the wild, zombie claimed world outside the walls of safety, there is only the dead walking.
The first in a new series set in the zombie world of The World Without End.

REVIEW

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Nazarea Andrews has so far left me shocked on how far she will go with her characters' creation. As a spin off from the series "The World without an End" another zombie themed series, "Personal Apocalypse" comes more like a sequel rather than a spin off, at least to my opinion.

So it would be better to read her first series.

The world ended years ago as the zombie virus destroyed America as we knew it and the human race became a dying species. Joshiah, Parker, Finn and Nurrin, protagonists of the previous series now travel to Africa in order to escape from their pasts and maybe find a safe haven.

What they do find though in Africa is far more worse than anyone expected. The people there adapted differently to the zombies and the way they do act is far more scarier than the cults, the walled cities and the zombies back in America.

Told by the dual POV of Joshiah and Parker, moving between part and present this is a story about humanity and survival. There is not much plot development, more like a neeed from the author to built the psychology og her heroes.

If you like a good zombie novel then Nazarea Andrews will not leave you unsatisfied! ;)

Review: "Red Rising" (Red Rising #1) by Pierce Brown

Red Rising by Pierce Brown
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

"I live for the dream that my children will be born free," she says. "That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them."

"I live for you," I say sadly.

Eo kisses my cheek. "Then you must live for more."

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations.

Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity already reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity's overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society's ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies... even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

REVIEW

This book has been sitting on my shelf for almost two years. Having bought it in a whim of bookish shopping therapy, I expected to dive and devour this one just like everyone did at that time. Only after the release of "Morning Star", the final book, and after some amazing fanart I took the decision to begin.

If I were to describe "Red Rising" in few words, I would say that it's "Braveheart" meeting "Hunger Games" and the sci-fi genre.

Darrow lives bellow Mars, working as a miner. He and his caste, the Reds, believe that they are pioneers, working for the Golds and hoping that the palnet will be habitable.
An act of revolution from his wife Eo, will lead Darrow in a quest of revenge and he will enter the society of the Golds, hoping to destroy them from the inside. Friendships and alliances are made and enemies are born in the most cruel test every Gold youth must enter, the Institute.

What I liked in this book were the references to the ancient Roman and Greek mythology. The Houses in the Institute are named after the Roman Gods and the test which lasts a year is nothing more but a real life game of "Stratego". With weapons. And lots of mud.

Darrow begins as a weak character yet quite soon he becomes the most important character in the book. He sometimes overshadows the others with his unique destiny as the future destroyer. I don't know what will happen in the other books, but I hope he will have someone to support him.
Some of the best supporting characters were Sevro, Roque and Mustang. Despite their different backgrounds and their own means to win the game they become important for Darrow, even if in some cases some of the other players had to step over dead bodies in order to achieve their purposes.

What happens to Darrow in the beginning of the book was also very disturbing. From a Red he must become a Gold and the proccess to do that was very, very painful. I wouldn't even wish that to my own emeny.

Overall, the book has potential, though I am more interested about what will happen between Darrow and Mustang. For a book that is NOT labeled as a romance it held my attention and I never let a series unfinished. ;)

About the author:

Pierce Brown's first novel, RED RISING (Del Rey Books), debuts January 28, 2014. It is the first installment in The Red Rising Trilogy.

Pierce Brown spent his childhood building forts and setting traps for his cousins in the woods of six states and the deserts of two. Graduating college in 2010, he fancied the idea of continuing his studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a magical bone in his body. So while trying to make it as a writer, he worked as a manager of social media at a startup tech company, toiled as a peon on the Disney lot at ABC Studios, did his time as an NBC page, and gave sleep deprivation a new meaning during his stint as an aide on a U.S. Senate Campaign.

Now he lives in Los Angeles, where he scribbles tales of spaceships, wizards, ghouls, and most things old or bizarre.

Note to the reader: Always feel free to contact him via his website, twitter, or facebook. He likes people. Except if you're a trollish person. Then he merely puts up with you for the sake of manners and propriety.

    MY ANSWER
I don't have any particular prblem reading short stories or novellas which follow the series. I recently read the two first novellas of "The Wrath and the Dawn" series and I liked them!
They are a good break from the books and I think they built the anticipation for the upcoming sequel!

Excerpt

I know that the capital of Bolivia is Sucre. I know that the average distance from the earth to the moon is 238,900 miles. I also know that blue whales can go six months without eating. Random, bizarre stuff. That’s what my head is full of. Nothing that will boost my math scores on the ACT or secure me a date to prom. Nothing that will save me and my best friend from this being our last day on the planet.
While my brain is obviously wired differently, there are certain common sense rules all girls in town comprehend. It’s not knowledge that has to be taught, like when I was six and my oldest brother spent weeks teaching me to tie my shoes or how at four my older sister spared a few minutes from her overly important life to show me how to spell my name.
In fact, sitting here on the top step to the entrance of Snowflake High watching this potential disaster unfold, I search my memory for the first person who warned me to steer clear of the Reign of Terror Motorcycle Club.
There was no pamphlet handed out during health class. No sex conversation like the one my mom had with me in Kindergarten because I referred to a certain male body part by the same name as a round toy. Stupid brothers teaching me their stupid slang.
But when it pertains to the threat that is the Reign of Terror MC, it’s not learned, it’s known. Like how an infant understands how to suck in a breath at the moment of birth or how a newborn foal wobbles to his legs. It’s instinctual. It’s ingrained. It’s fact.
“Do you think his motorcycle will work this time?” Addison asks.
“Hope so,” I breathe out, too terrified to speak at a normal level in fear of drawing the scrutiny of the men wearing black leather vests who circle the broke-down bike. Reign of Terror arches over the top of the black vest, in the middle is a half skull with fire blazing out of the eye sockets and drops of fire rain around it. It’s ominous and I shiver.
Addison and I sit huddled close. Legs touching. Shoulders bumped into the other. We’d probably hold hands if we didn’t have our welcome back to school information folders gripped tightly to our chests. Because we can’t spawn eyes in the back of our head, we lean against the large pillar of the overhang so no one can sneak up on us from behind.
It’s edging toward nine in the evening but the August sun hasn’t completely set. Darkness, though, has claimed most of the sky. Temperatures during the afternoon hit over a hundred and I swear the concrete stairs and pillar absorbed every ounce of today’s sunshine and is not transferring the heat onto my body.
Sweat rolls down my back and I shift to peel my thighs off the step. Why I thought it was a fantastic idea to wear the jean skirt, I have no idea.
I take that back. I do have a clue for my clothing choice. Tonight is the first time my entire grade was together in one room since the end of last year. My goal for the year may seem simple to some, but to me, it sometimes feels impossible. I’d like to be seen, to be known as something more than freakishly smart Breanna Miller at least once before I leave this town. I’d like to somehow find the courage to be on the outside who I am on the inside.
An annoying sixth sense informs me that I’m about to make a huge impression—on the evening news: two friends on the verge of starting their senior year vanish without a trace. Because that’s how motorcycle clubs would handle this—they’ll kidnap us and then hide our bodies after they’re finished with whatever ritual act they’ll use to perform.
My knee begins to bounce. Mom and Dad left after my failed attempt to convince them to let me attend High Grove Academy and they promised to return in time for pickup.
The senior welcome session ended at eight and the parking lot cleared out by eight twenty. The straggling parents arrived by eight thirty and that left Addison and me alone with blond-haired biker boy and his dilapidated machine.
He called his buddies around the same time I tried the various members of my family for the fiftieth time. His gang showed in a chrome procession in less than ten minutes. I’m still waiting to hear from anyone I’m related to.

REVIEW

"Nowhere But Here" introduced us into the world of MC clubs with one in particular which was very different from every NA book that features the same theme. I liked it very much because for ONCE the bikers are not the criminal kind but they are a family, with problems but also with strong bonds of love.

In the second book Breanna and Razor are featured, different yet in many ways they are the same. Both come from families with problems with Razor losing his trust to the club and Breanna being the fifth kid in the row of nine.
I seriously doubt the number of laundry they do.

Anyway, the one part that I liked very much in the book was the issue of cyber-bullying. Both Breanna and her friends as also Violet, become victims or are threataned by that and Razor is one of the few who tries to help them. Both are misjudged by their classmates and the adults and both work together in order to uncover the mystery behind Razor's past.

Another part that I liked was the relationships between parents and children. Breanna is almost shunned and treated badly by her older siblings, her parents are almost non-existent and she is left alone to care for her younger siblings.

Razor has to deal with a crappy father and his only solace is the club and the other families. I liked how both reached to each other and how thei romance developed. It was every part how I expected it to be!

I hope the next book will be about Violet. She had a role in this book and I want to see how she will grow into the series.

Review: "Burning Glass" (Burning Glass, #1) by Kathryn Purdie

Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Sonya was born with the rare gift to feel what those around her feel—both physically and emotionally—a gift she’s kept hidden from the empire for seventeen long years. After a reckless mistake wipes out all the other girls with similar abilities, Sonya is hauled off to the palace and forced to serve the emperor as his sovereign Auraseer.

Tasked with sensing the intentions of would-be assassins, Sonya is under constant pressure to protect the emperor. One mistake, one small failure, will cost her own life and the lives of the few people left in the world who still trust her.

But Sonya’s power is untamed and reckless, her feelings easily usurped, and she sometimes can’t decipher when other people’s impulses end and her own begin. In a palace full of warring emotions and looming darkness, Sonya fears that the biggest danger to the empire may be herself.

As she struggles to wrangle her abilities, Sonya seeks refuge in her tenuous alliances with the volatile Emperor Valko and his idealistic younger brother, Anton, the crown prince. But when threats of revolution pit the two brothers against each other, Sonya must choose which brother to trust—and which to betray.

BURNING GLASS is debut author Kathryn Purdie’s stunning tale of dangerous magic, heart-rending romance, and the hard-won courage it takes to let go.

REVIEW

This book has been on my TBR list since October 2015, when the debut covers of all 2016 books were released. While the cover was eerie and one of the many I loved, I didn't know what to expect when I started reading the book. A love tirangle? A heroine too swept from her old life to the point of becoming cliche?

But no. I was quite amazed when the plot thickened and Sonya proved to be a character I liked very much.

In a nutshell, the story is about Sonya, a girl who is also an Auraseer. As the name implies she can sense the feelings of everyone and everything around her. That's quite terrifying not to mention that it can easily drive you mad. From the beginning of the book we have an action scene that causes Sonya to cerry quite an emotional burden through almost the entire book.

Add in Emperor Valko and his brother Anton and then you have conspiracy, politcal alliances and romance. Some bloggers had implied that there was indeed a love triangle here. But to my opinion it was more a manipulation effort from one of the above male characters. (hehe I don't spoil)

Another part I liked was the worldbuilding. I have read quite the books so far which had an amazing worldbuilding, mythology to accompany it and a map. With hints of Russian influence I liked this book since in a tiny bit it reminded me of the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.

I would recommend this book if you want angst and romance while at the same time you carve a good reading. ;)

About the author:

Kathryn’s love of storytelling began as a young girl when her dad told her about someone named Boo Radley while they listened to the film score of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. In high school and college, Kathryn focused on acting, poetry, guitar, and extensive journal writing. Years later, when she was in recovery from donating a kidney to her brother, inspiration for her first novel struck. She’s been writing darkly fantastical stories ever since. Her debut novel, BURNING GLASS, releases winter 2016 from HarperCollins/Katherine Tegen Books.
