Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Summary from GoodReads
Can Evie convince her rival loves to work together? Their survival depends on it in this third book of #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicles, a nonstop action tale of rescue, redemption, and a revenge most wicked.
Heartbreaking decisions
Evie was almost seduced by the life of comfort that Death offered her—until Jack was threatened by two of the most horrific Arcana, The Lovers. She will do anything to save him, even escape Death’s uncanny prison, full of beautiful objects, material comforts…and stolen glances from a former love.
Uncertain victory
Despite leaving a part of her heart behind with Death, Evie sets out into a frozen and perilous post-apocalyptic wasteland to meet up with her allies and launch an attack on The Lovers and the vast army they command. Such formidable enemies require a battle plan, and the only way to kill them once and for all may mean Evie, Jack, and Death allying. Evie doesn’t know what will prove more impossible: surviving slavers, plague, Bagmen and other Arcana—or convincing Jack and Death to work together.
Two heroes returned
There’s a thin line between love and hate, and Evie just doesn’t know where she stands with either Jack or Death. Will this unlikely trio be able to defeat The Lovers without killing one another first?

REVIEW
This series is going to be the death of me! Not only "Endless Knight" ended on a cliffhanger but also "Dead of the Winter" ended in a similar manner! Which also left me crying and almost tossing my Ipod to the wall.
Don't worry, the Ipod survived...
So why the missing star? Let's begin with the love triangle. All the story is a journey for Evie, Jack and Death in order to save Selena from the Arcana Card, the Lovers. I'm not going to say the details since I will spoil you but let's focus on the facts:
I liked the way Kresley Cole delivers the anguish and the fear of surviving in her apocalyptic world. I think it's even worse that spending your life on District 12, if you know what I mean.
On the other hand, I couldn't decide if I should strangle Evie or kick her on her rosy butt for her indecision. It's clear that Death had a horrible eternity and I get it but Jack was the one who saved her and LOVED her first. It was unfair for Jack to be treated like this even after everything he did.
Another part I did like on the thrid book was the rest of the Arcana. How they worked together and how amazing their powers are. We also get to meet the High Priestess, another Arcana who I believe will have a major role on the fourth book. She seemed to have a good relationship with the Empress in the past games so I hope she will become an ally.
In the end of the story the most terrifying Card appears: the Emperor who does something unthinkable just to the point where Evie had settled on her feelings. I can't wait for 2016. I need the next book now!
