Rowan Platts is addicted to success. When she's presented with the chance to work on a top secret project fronted by her idol, renowned virologist Dr. Margot Miller, Rowan signs her life away without second thought. The realization she’s gotten in over her head comes only after the subject of their study is revealed: a boy with a bad attitude and an uninhibited taste for human blood. He's a medical anomaly. Having the ability to crush metal with his bare hands and hear a heartbeat from across the room, it would make Rowan’s career if she was the one to discover what made him so unusual. Easier said than done, with a subject who prefers snapping necks over answering questions.

ARC Review: "Bad Princess" by Julianna Keyes

Bad Princess by Julianna Keyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Notorious for leaping off roofs, maiming foreign royals, and thattwerking incident, Brinley Cantrella of Estau is nobody’s definition of a good princess. She’s fearless and bold, not good and gracious. And after a lifetime of being told she’s unfit to be queen, wearing the crown and helping to usher Estau into a new era is the one dream she’s never dared chase.

But when her older sister abdicates the throne, all Brinley has to do to inherit the role is not twerk, not maim anybody, and definitely not get caught fooling around topless with Prince Finn, her childhood crush, the only man she’s ever loved…and her sister’s former future husband.

Finn embodies the definition of good. Tall and handsome, serious and honorable, he always does the right thing—including agreeing to marry his ex’s sister to cover up this latest scandal. Brinley has fallen down stairs, broken teeth and broken bones, but this is the first time her heart has ever been broken. She now has the crown and the prince, and on the surface, life is good—but is being married to a man everyone swears could never love her back good enough?

Approximately 39,500 words.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Short, sweet and sexy! Bad Princess follows the misfits of the known as "Bad Princess" Brinley and how an almost drunk mistake follows a small adventure and the romance she develops for her...husband.

I liked this story. While short, it's complete and doesn't leave loose ends. I would even love to see a prequel story about Brinley's sister Ella. And while there is a rollercoaster of emotions the funny times, can't be missed!

Review: "Autoboygraphy" by Christina Lauren

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Fangirl meets Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda in this funny and poignant coming-of-age novel from New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren about two boys who fall in love in a writing class—one from a progressive family and the other from a conservative religious community.

Three years ago, Tanner Scott’s family relocated from California to Utah, a move that nudged the bisexual teen temporarily back into the closet. Now, with one semester of high school to go, and no obstacles between him and out-of-state college freedom, Tanner plans to coast through his remaining classes and clear out of Utah.

But when his best friend Autumn dares him to take Provo High’s prestigious Seminar—where honor roll students diligently toil to draft a book in a semester—Tanner can’t resist going against his better judgment and having a go, if only to prove to Autumn how silly the whole thing is. Writing a book in four months sounds simple. Four months is an eternity.

It turns out, Tanner is only partly right: four months is a long time. After all, it takes only one second for him to notice Sebastian Brother, the Mormon prodigy who sold his own Seminar novel the year before and who now mentors the class. And it takes less than a month for Tanner to fall completely in love with him.

REVIEW

I never expected a YA contemporary to be so sweet and yearning! "Autoboyography" focuses not only on the growing story of Tanner and Sebastian but also in the matter of religion and how sometimes, religion becomes a part of your life, to the point of stifling your true self.

Tanner was hilarious; he tries to see his life through an easy route even if it means that he can't express himself. His family is very supportive, despite that his parents tell him that in order to fit into the new school he has to hide the fact that he is gay.

Controversial to my opinion, but after reading the book I understood that his parents acted that way because they feared for Tanner's well-being.
Sebastian was a sweetie! He was cute, shy and beautiful! I couldn't help but root for him, as he tried to manoeuvre his family life and the expectations they had from him. When close to the ending we have his own POV, that broke my heart.

This book was a nice surprise from the writing duo and I wouldn't mind if they wrote more YA like this one!

Review: "Before She Ignites" (Fallen Isles Trilogy #1) by Jodi Meadows

Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Before

Mira Minkoba is the Hopebearer. Since the day she was born, she’s been told she’s special. Important. Perfect. She’s known across the Fallen Isles not just for her beauty, but for the peace treaty named after her, an agreement which united the seven islands against their enemies on the mainland.

But Mira never felt perfect. She counts compulsively. She struggles with crippling anxiety. And she’s far too interested in dragons for a girl of her station.

After

Then Mira discovers an explosive secret that challenges everything she and the treaty stand for. Betrayed by the very people she spent her life serving, Mira is sentenced to the Pit—the deadliest prison in the Fallen Isles. There, a cruel guard would do anything to discover the secret she would die to protect.
No longer beholden to those who betrayed her, Mira must learn to survive on her own and unearth the dark truths about the Fallen Isles—and herself—before her very world begins to collapse.

REVIEW

"Before she Ignites" proved to be one of the best fantasy books I've read in the fall, along with others of course. Mira is the Hopebringer, a princess in one of the seven Fallen Isles. This world has many different cultures, beliefs and histories but all are connected through the Mira Treaty, which among others, it also protects the dragons.

I knew that Jodi Meadows had said that she was hoping to make a detailed guide about the dragons of this world, but now she must! There is so much beauty in these creatures, they are emotional and very nicely described!

While Mira is thrown into the Pit, one of the worst jails in the Fallen Isles, she will discover a worldwide plot against the dragons as also the magic behind the glowing stones of her world. I liked Mira; while she was pampered as a princess, she wanted more and her OCD with the number was a calming technique against the pressure. From what I have gathered her family is awful, especially her mother; she was never violent, but you can't make your own child feel unworthy by mentioning all of her possible-maybe they are not there, flaws.

The plot is steady and moves back and forth in time. There is a nice group of secondary characters, which I'd love to see more detailed and grown in the next book. And of course, there's Aaru. One of the beautiful parts of his character was the silent, sign-like language he and Mira had. While his feelings may not be so developed, to this point he proved to be very helpful and supportive.

I truly believe that this book has great potential, not to mention that the plot will thicken more and the world-building surely will expand drastically towards the next book! Very recommended if you like dragons and fantasy!

And don't forget my sweet baby sized dragon, Lala!

Top 10 Tuesday: Top Ten Unique Book Titles

This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s topic is Top Ten Tuesday #124: Unique titles! This tine was a strange Top 10 Tuesday because I had SO MANY books I wanted to iclude! I tried to add some 2018 releases here too!

10: The Queen of All that Dies by Laura Thalassa: One of the most emotional, dystopian books I've read! There is action, too forbidden romance and angst. The titles of all the books are unique too!

9: The Language of Thrones by Leigh Bardugo: One of the titles I still have to read! And from what I've seen this book is glorious!

8: Library Wars manga series by Kiiro Yumi: In a world where books are banned and people fight and die for their free right to read, this manga series has romance, humour and touches social issues.

7: 27 Hours by Tristina Wright: A book told in the timeline of 27 hours. That is a really hard time for our protagonists, but also this book is one of the most diverse ones for 2017!

6: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi: A book that has gotten widespread attention. I had the luck to read the first three chapters on Netgalley and surely I'll enjoy it very much!

5: The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee: Of course I had to add my beloved Percy and Monty! Not only this book has a unique title but also amazing characters and humour!

4: A Semi-Definite List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland: Also one of the peculiar books I've read. Some parts made me laugh like a maniac, others made me cry. Not to mention that the ending was really mysterious.

3: An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson: This beauty was also one of my favorite September reads! The romance, the world-building, everything was amazing!

2: Zero Repeat Forever by G.S. Prendergast: Ah, my beautiful book with the cover I wish I could turn into a tattoo! Such sad and beautiful story, with a cliffhanger as an ending!

1: Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: Yup, hands down one of the best ones. I love Lazlo, I love the title, the cover, ever the heartbreaking story and mystery behind the lost gods. I can only hope my lovelies will have an HEA in the end because this book left me yearning for a time machine (preferably Tardis).

Excerpt
I haven’t seen Mia in almost a month, since the last time she was in town staying with Max. I didn’t realize she’d be back a full week before her other brother Chase’s wedding, and am I ever glad to see her again.

She makes all parts of me quite happy indeed.

By happy, I mean hard as a rock.

Okay, fine. It’s not like I’m operating at full power this second. I’m thirty-three, not fifteen. I have plenty of self-control in the “when and where to pitch a tent” arena. All I’m saying is this woman gets me going, and I feel that zip down my body when I see her.

She’s on the phone, her eyebrows pinched, her expression harried. She drags her hand through her caramel-blond hair. As I walk closer, I hear her say, “I understand. Yes, I understand. Things happen.”

And that’s the sound of someone being disappointed.

Which is a terrible thing for this sexy-as-a-fiery-sunset woman to experience.

When she stops and ends her call, she spots me. She tilts her head, her eyes piercing, her brow furrowed, and her dimples killing me with cuteness. Her eyes roam from me to Zeus, and then she points at my boy. “I don’t know if anyone has told you this . . .”

I raise my eyebrows. “Tell me. What could it possibly be?”

Her eyes drift to the ground then back up. In a deadpan tone, she says, “But there’s a cat in your hat? Well, on your back, actually.”

“There is?” I crane my neck to peer over my shoulder. “You’re right. How did he get there?”

She parks her hands on her hips. “You’re in big trouble.”

“I’ve been bad, have I?”

She pushes my shoulder then wags her finger at me. “How did you keep this from me?”

I quirk an eyebrow. “The fact that there’s an awesome new Italian place down the street? It opened last month, and I planned to tell you.”

She huffs, rolling her eyes. “I’ve known you for months and you didn’t tell me you had a cat. Friends don’t hide pets from friends.”

She’s not in town that often. She hasn’t ever been to my apartment. And I don’t take Zeus upstairs to Max’s. But I’m not going to state the obvious. I’m going to have a little fun with her. Flirt with her. Because . . . that’s what we do.

“There’s a reason for that.”

Her eyes go wide, and she taps her toe, waiting. I drag a hand through my hair. Evie says my light brown hair is floppy, and she tells me this is a good thing. The ladies love floppy hair, she says. She’s been right so far. My hair’s been a big hit with the ladies, and other parts have, too.

“It’s a good reason,” I add.

“I’m waiting, Patrick. This really isn’t the type of intel you should hold back.”

I heave a sigh as if I’m going to make a huge admission, then I park a hand on her shoulder. Because, well, I’m a sneaky bastard and I’ll look for any opening to touch her. “Look, I’m going to be blunt. If I told you I had a hiking cat who rides shotgun in a backpack and can purr like he’s a jazz superstar, you’d have had no choice but to fall in love with me.”

Release Week Blitz+Excerpt+Giveaway: "Dignity" (The Breaking Point #2) by Jay Crownover

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Jay Crownover returns with the second title in her romantic suspense series, The Breaking Point, DIGNITY. Check out the excerpt below and grab your copy today!

About DIGNITY:

Looks can be deceiving.

I knew that most people took one look at the ink and the impossibly big and strong body it covered and decided I was a brawler…a bruiser…a beast. However, I was hardwired to be a thinker, not a fighter.

I should have chosen to use my brain and talents to be one of the good guys, a hero, a man with dignity and worth.

I turned my back on dignity and sold my soul to the highest bidder, deciding to dance with the devil, instead.

I couldn’t figure out how to help myself, so there was zero chance I knew how to save someone else.

That someone else was Noe Lee. She was the unkempt, unruly thief who was just as smart as I was and twice as street savvy. She was annoyingly adorable beneath the dirt and grime, and she was in trouble. In way over her head, I told myself it wasn’t my job to keep her from drowning. In the Point, it was sink or swim, and I wasn’t the designated lifeguard on duty.

I shut the door in her face, but now she’s gone…vanished…disappeared without a trace. It took less than a second for me to realize that I wanted her back.

When a woman comes along that melts all the frozen, hard things you’re made of; you’ll do anything you have to, to bring her home.

What you see is not always what you get…and with a man like me, what you get is more than anyone ever bargained for.

EXCERPT

I was dragging ass when I took the stairs up to Booker’s unit. Typically, I could run up the three flights and not even get winded, but I was running on fumes and the last traces of adrenaline. My brain was fuzzy, and my normally sharp thoughts felt scattered and unruly. The past and the present were at war in my mind, and the battle for which one made me feel worse was raging.
I made my way through the quiet loft listening for any sound that would indicate Noe was up and moving around. When I got closer to the bedroom, I heard the shower running and swear words chasing the steam out of the open door. It was going to be painful for a while when the water sluiced over her wounds. The thought had me squeezing my eyes closed and clenching my hands into fists. Just because tough things didn’t break didn’t mean they couldn’t be damaged, dented, and scratched. The fact Noe was currently suffering so much wear and tear because of me scraped across my skin and dug into my belly like sharp knives.

I was turning to walk out of the room so she could finish in peace when the running water went silent and her swearing ramped up a notch. I heard her banging around in the bathroom and then she yelled, “Booker, I need a towel! I’m dripping all over your floor.”

I opened my mouth to tell her Booker was gone and that I would go find her one. I didn’t need her poking through his stuff and running across a submachine gun or a rocket launcher. My brain was ping-ponging between annoyance that she’d called for Booker instead of me and the unrelenting image of her, naked, wet, and dripping onto the tile. I wasn’t a guy prone to fantasy, but damn if I didn’t get all kinds of caught up in the thought of her pretty olive skin glistening with moisture from head to toe. I needed to get away from her. I needed space so I could find a way to wrap armor back around all the soft parts of me she exposed.

I was shaking my head to marshal my thoughts back in order when I heard her swear again. Suddenly, like I conjured her out of a dream, Noe was standing in the pocket doorway of the bathroom wearing nothing more than a scowl of irritation and shimmery, shiny water droplets. Her midnight-colored eyebrows shot up to her hairline, and a bright pink flush stained the top of her chest and crawled up her neck into her face. She didn’t lift her hands to cover herself. She stood as still as I was, not moving at all under my furious and hungry gaze.

I wanted to be polite and look away. I told myself it was rude to stare and that the last thing she needed was some guy she barely knew gawking at her like she was a priceless work of art on a museum wall. I berated myself for this invasion of privacy but none of the lecturing or preaching did any good. The only way I could have torn my eyes off that petite frame, with it’s perfectly perky breasts and slightly rounded hips, was if someone slapped them out of my head. I couldn’t blink. I was scared to breathe. I felt like if I moved at all she would bolt like a startled deer, and I needed another second, another minute, another hour, to memorize every single part of her.

She was small, but all the parts added up to perfection. Seeing her like this, stripped bare with nothing to hide behind, I couldn’t believe I’d ever been stupid enough think she was a boy. Everything about her was delicate, feminine, and soft. The hollow of her neck, the elegant curve of her shoulders, the flare of her hips and the fullness of her ass. Her legs weren’t long, but they were toned and shapely. She was the very definition of good things coming in small packages and all I wanted to do was wrap her up and put her on a shelf that was too high and too hard to reach for anyone but me.

Choking on possession and a surge of lust unlike anything I’d ever felt, I belatedly turned my back on her and muttered thickly, “I used all the towels in there last night when I cleaned you up. I’ll go find where Booker keeps the extras.”

She moved. I felt it. The current that ran between us pulsed and throbbed with something hot. I heard her bare feet on the carpet and it took every ounce of willpower I possessed to keep my feet planted and my back turned. She was naked in a room with a very big bed and I was a man who never had such a visceral reaction to anyone…ever. If I had a switch, Noe Lee was the only person who had ever come along and flipped it. I was the actual definition of turned on when I had been off for most of my life.
