<b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div>
<br />
<br /><b>I received an e-ARC from the author & publisher in exchange for an honest review. </b><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">It is a rare chance to read a compendium of a fictional world. Make it a world made by my favorite Jennifer Armentrout and I am sold! What I need to stress here is the fact that this book is only a compilation of information and summaries of the characters' lives set in both prequel and main series, sparkled with extra short stories, interviews, and amazing art as also maps.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Well, technically it is Miss Willa writing everything who is also a character from the series and the author of the spicy diary Poppy loves to read. Through her words, we see how the mythology of the Primals and the gods was created and how the story of Sera, Ash, and Kolis (characters from the Flesh and Fire series) unfolded without giving spoilers if someone has not read the prequel series.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Personally, I laughed at the Kierran interview, and the stories Willa says about herself and her commentary on Poppy and Cas. The art for Poppy, Cas, and Kierran is top quality. My favorite was also that of Vonetta and Emil too! There are also some minor developments like letters addressed to characters and descriptions of the world.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Despite being a compendium it is very well structured and can be easily read. Needless to say it works as a perfect addition to both series because anyone can read the summary of the plot so far (in the time this review is written the final books of the prequel and main series have not been published yet). That way someone can enjoy both what they need to know and get the eye candy which is the art, maps, and Willa's steamy stories.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In conclusion, this is the perfect part that adds to the world-building of this massive series by Jennifer Armentrout and personally, I can not wait for the final books!</div>

She’s banking on a bright future in the city until strange things begin to happen. People are suddenly having peculiar reactions to her singing voice, and a giant wolfhound starts following her like a lost puppy. But the cherry on top is when the mayor of her long-forgotten birthplace, Shehan, a town on a mountainous island off the craggy northern coast of Maine, shows up on her doorstep with an impossible revelation: the folklore stories she grew up hearing are real. Letty is the last land siren on Earth…and he needs her help.</span></div></span><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #1e1915;"><br /></span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">An escaped kelpie—a monstrous water horse—is terrorizing Shehan, and Letty’s voice is the only thing that can stop it. She wants answers to her parents’ disappearance as well as a chance to prove herself. But in a race of mighty druids and formidable Scottish witches, Letty’s power is an anomaly, feared and reviled by the mystic community. Her lineage must be kept secret. It becomes even harder to fulfil these tasks when a new enemy threatens her—an alluring, powerful druid boy filled with darkness who would just as soon kill her as kiss her.</span></div></span><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #1e1915;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">Will her deadly melody be enough to save the town and herself?</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;"><b>PRE-ORDER ON</b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #242424; font-family: "Segoe UI Web (Greek)", "Segoe UI", -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; text-align: left;"><a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CR6P6HGW "><b>Amazon </b></a></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">About the author:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1516735499p5/4279785.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="188" height="221" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1516735499p5/4279785.jpg" width="156" /></a></div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: inherit;">Wendy Higgins is the USA Today and NY Times bestselling author of the SWEET EVIL series from HarperTeen, the high fantasy duology THE GREAT HUNT, her independently published Irish Fantasy SEE ME, and her indie NA science fiction UNKNOWN trilogy.</span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">After earning a Creative Writing degree from George Mason University and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford, Wendy taught high school English until achieving her dream job as a full-time writer.</span></div></span></span><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><p></p>Alexandra Perchanidouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08523008432694508414noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2030528715653485391.post-13451160227455693162024-01-03T08:49:00.005+02:002024-01-03T08:49:27.202+02:00ARC Review: "A Fragile Enchantment" by Allison Saft<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/127305900-a-fragile-enchantment"><br /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/127305900-a-fragile-enchantment"></a><a href="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1683815235i/127305900.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="527" height="302" src="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1683815235i/127305900.jpg" width="199" /></a></div><b>A Fragile Enchantment</b><b> by <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/19239041.Allison_Saft">Allison Saft</a><br />

The magic in her blood that lets her stitch emotions and memories into fabric is the same magic that will eventually kill her. But when Niamh and Kit grow closer, an unlikely friendship blossoms into something more—until an anonymous columnist starts buzzing about their chemistry, promising to leave them alone only if Niamh helps to uncover the royal family’s secrets. The rot at the heart of Avaland runs deep, but exposing it could risk a future she never let herself dream of, and a love she never thought possible.</span></div></span><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #1e1915;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Transporting readers to a Regency England-inspired fantasy world, A Fragile Enchantment is a sweeping romance threaded with intrigue, unforgettable characters, and a love story for the ages.</span></div></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>BUY ON </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/125089283X/ref=x_gr_bb_amazon?ie=UTF8&tag=x_gr_bb_amazon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=125089283X&SubscriptionId=1MGPYB6YW3HWK55XCGG2">AMAZON</a> | <a href="https://www.waterstones.com/book/a-fragile-enchantment/allison-saft/9781510112117">WATERSTONES</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div><br /><br /><br /><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. </b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Tackling 2024 with this lovely YA book, set in a magical world where emotions can be woven into cloth, blights can be made just with a thought and social class is everything.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Niamh is a dressmaker born with the rare ability to weave emotions to the clothes she makes. It has been a while since a YA book held my attention, and I may return to the category again. My only issue was with how sometimes Niamh would act like a ten-year-old, quick to judge by appearances and not look into the core of the issue, despite starting as a character who had the seriousness of the situation. There was character development, especially from Kit's side which I liked as also from the King and the rest of the secondary characters.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The ending was also good and felt complete.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Recommended for the lovely descriptions and the magic woven into them.</div></div><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1692317414p5/19239041.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="178" height="266" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1692317414p5/19239041.jpg" width="178" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: inherit;">Allison Saft is the New York Times and indie bestselling author of A Far Wilder Magic and Down Comes the Night. <b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div>
<br /><div><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. </b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 700;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Trigger warnings: mention of sexual assault (off page), blood.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This book was a fascinating surprise. I am not one to read thrillers, and I can not even categorize it as a thriller per se, it is more like dark vibes of academia with a hint of thriller and Fae elements.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Our story follows Effy Sayre an architect student, the only female one, who has always believed in fairy tales. Surrounded in a man's world of academia, despite her longing to become a literature student, she is at the same time haunted by visions of the Fairy King, a creature known only in myths.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">She knows by heart, Angharad—Emrys Myrddin’s epic about a mortal girl who falls in love with the Fairy King and kills him, a book that is considered a national treasure, in a world that seems to be at a point of Cold War, along with cultural and political prejudice.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">When she gets the chance to create the new architectural plans for Myrddin's family house she jumps to the chance to get to know the family of her beloved deceased author, along with a literature student Preston Héloury, whose aim is to discredit Myrddin's work as a fraud.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">But the house hides more secrets than the growing unrest of rising waters and even more than that, the threatening presence that seems to surround the house itself, threatening to destroy both Effy and Preston.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This book with themes of literature, natural disasters rooted in myth, and a hint of magic held deeper meanings. While Effy and Preston try to work around the house and its residents it is at the same time the outlet from which they come to terms with deeper secrets of their selves. The plot unspools slowly but picks up quite fast close to around the 75% of the book where we see who truly was Myrddin and what his legacy would be like if the truth had come out.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I loved how the romance between Effy and Preston developed. He was smitten from the start, I call it now. :D</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Overall this was quite a good book, worth of the praise and the Goodreads Award nominee! Recommended but keep in mind the TW at the beginning of the review.</div><br /></div>

Summary from GoodReads</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her Flesh and Fire series…</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The only thing that can save the realms now is the one thing more powerful than the Fates.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">After a startling betrayal ends with both Sera and the dangerously seductive ruler of the Shadowlands she has fallen madly in love with being held captive by the false King of the Gods, there is only one thing that can free Nyktos and prevent the forces of the Shadowlands from invading Dalos and igniting a War of Primals.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Convincing Kolis won’t be easy, though – not even with a lifetime of training. While his most favored Revenant is insistent that she is nothing more than a lie, Kolis’s erratic nature and twisted sense of honor leave her shaken to the core, and nothing could’ve prepared her for the cruelty of his Court or the shocking truths revealed. The revelations not only upend what she has understood about her duty and the very creation of the realms but also draw into question exactly what the true threat is. However, surviving Kolis is only one part of the battle. The Ascension is upon her, and Sera is out of time.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">But Nyktos will do anything to keep Sera alive and give her the life she deserves. He’ll even risk the utter destruction of the realms, and that’s exactly what will happen if he doesn’t Ascend as the Primal of Life. Yet despite his desperate determination, their destinies may be out of their hands.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates…</span></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>PRE-ORDER ON </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BQ77BJFR/ref=x_gr_bb_amazon?ie=UTF8&tag=x_gr_bb_amazon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0BQ77BJFR&SubscriptionId=1MGPYB6YW3HWK55XCGG2">AMAZON</a> | <a href="https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/A-Fire-in-the-Flesh-by-Jennifer-L-Armentrout/9781957568430">BLACKWELL'S</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. This review contains minor spoilers from previous books.</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">WARNING: It is best to read the series "From Blood and Ash" and then begin the prequel series as many points in the prequel series may make sense regarding the main books.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Oh my this book! I think Jennifer is laughing like a villain right now as she dropped bomb after bomb in this book, slowly tying up the plot holes from both series! Knowing now what may happen in both the next "From Blood and Ash" book and the final one of this series, I am anxiously waiting for the next big reveal.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Sera is a prisoner in Kolis's court. Following the events of the previous book, she now must navigate through a traitorous court, an unhinged Primal god, and that damn Callum, whom I want to unlive in any way like I am a hero in Walking Dead...seriously the guy gave me the creeps in every way!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This book is more about Sear discovering the hidden truths that tie her with the Primals, Ash's Father who orchestrated this whole plan, and also the future prophecies that may come to fruition from her own actions.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There was action at the start of the book, but then it slows down on pace in order to better immerse us in the inner workings of Kolis's court and also give us the first glimpse of creatures we do see in the books of From Blood and Ash.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As always Ash/Nyktos is a must-see; I loved how he also worked through his own feelings, finally, finally manning up to admit it to Sera! And those final pages of the book? I loved every bit of it and I can not wait for both the upcoming books of both series!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Jennifer Armentrout builds more upon this world she has created in a masterful way that leaves you both wanting for more...and craving Daddy Nyktos. Totally recommended!</div></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>And don't miss the rest books <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/313223-flesh-and-fire">of the series</a>, as well as the series "<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/321784-blood-and-ash">From Blood and Ash</a>"!</b></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"> <a href="https://media.tenor.com/1wRb8_GkTwgAAAAC/read-it-read-my-text.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="234" data-original-width="498" height="176" src="https://media.tenor.com/1wRb8_GkTwgAAAAC/read-it-read-my-text.gif" width="374" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1552568126p5/4476934.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="177" height="266" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1552568126p5/4476934.jpg" width="177" /></a></div><span><div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: inherit;"># 1 New York Times and # 1 International Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Charles Town, West Virginia. But what she gets instead of being terrified on the spot is a stable job that pays well, but she also has to deal with his mood swings and her new co-workers who are more than happy, or terrified to help him with his revenge.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The humor in this book is ecstatic; having come out of a pretty heavy plot-wise read I really wanted to have a comedic break in my reading. This book filled that need but also left me yearning for more. What I kept imagining while reading this was the Office but set in a fantasy world where the Villain may as well be a parallel universe cousin of the Darkling.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.gifer.com/14bg.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="198" data-original-width="350" height="198" src="https://i.gifer.com/14bg.gif" width="350" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">That frog prince was hilarious, like an anime character who looks at you with derision. The rest of the cast, from the dragon tamer to the office colleagues of Evie's gave a complete set of characters who never felt like they were just filling the pages. Sure Evie goes into some ridiculous situations which would make an average reader or a fantasy heroine want to slap some sense into her, but from her perspective and based on what she had also gone through I did sympathize with her.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">While the romance is not so obvious, there are the beginnings of one; the Villain grumpy that he is, is also quite clueless, and Evie sees all through him even when he refuses to actually acknowledge how effective she is work-wise.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Even the frog thinks so lol.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://media.giphy.com/media/QVlGEBzzBiCfC/giphy.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="294" data-original-width="500" height="156" src="https://media.giphy.com/media/QVlGEBzzBiCfC/giphy.gif" width="265" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Overall this book was very amusing and I devoured it in a day. Summary from GoodReads</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #1e1915;"><br /></span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">So Clementine forms a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, find someone decent to love, and try to remember to chase the moon. The last one is silly and obviously metaphorical, but her aunt always told her that you needed at least one big dream to keep going. And for the last year, that plan has gone off without a hitch. Mostly. The love part is hard because she doesn’t want to get too close to anyone—she isn’t sure her heart can take it.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">And then she finds a strange man standing in the kitchen of her late aunt’s apartment. A man with kind eyes and a Southern drawl and a taste for lemon pies. The kind of man that, before it all, she would’ve fallen head-over-heels for. And she might again.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">Except, he exists in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact. And she, quite literally, lives seven years in his future.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">Her aunt always said the apartment was a pinch in time, a place where moments blended together like watercolors. And Clementine knows that if she lets her heart fall, she’ll be doomed.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">After all, love is never a matter of time—but a matter of timing.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><div style="text-align: justify;"><i style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">An overworked book publicist with a perfectly planned future hits a snag when she falls in love with her temporary roommate…only to discover he lives seven years in the past, in this witty and wise new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Dead Romantics.</i></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>BUY ON </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Audible-The-Seven-Year-Slip/dp/B0BJ33VY73/ref=sr_1_1?crid=B6L7QVRMCNQD&keywords=the+seven+year+slip+by+ashley+poston&qid=1694412983&s=books&sprefix=the+seven+year%2Cstripbooks-intl-ship%2C224&sr=1-1">AMAZON</a> | <a href="https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/The-Seven-Year-Slip-by-Ashley-Poston/9780008566593">BLACKWELL'S</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Well, here I am trying to also find a way to describe this small gem of a book. I knew Ashley set the bar high with her previous book "Dead Romantics" but in this one, I feel like she took our feelings wrapped them up beautifully in a package...and threw in the ocean.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The Seven Year Slip can be dubbed also as "The Lake House" meets "When Harry met Sally" (at least the idea of the movie for me).</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Clementine is a workaholic who inherits an apartment from her deceased aunt. Drawn with grief and a sense of loss, she tries to tentatively move and settle in her apartment, only to discover a strange man living already there. Iwan is an aspiring chef who wants to make a life for himself in New York, and he is as surprised as Clementine is. Soon she discovers that the house connects them across time, as Iwan lives in the past and she in his future; a gap of seven years between them.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As Clementine tries to connect the dots between past and present she slowly falls for Iwan...but she may fall in love with I'm again and discover more things about herself, as she deals with her grief.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I devoured this book in one day. I had some recurring fear that something may happen like it did in the movie "The Lake House" but this book was so much different yet so beautifully written. Clementine is a character who feels realistic and grounded in her doubts and dreams that she feels left behind. I enjoyed her growth in the book, as she navigated between his past and her present through the time slips in the apartment.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Which I seriously believe Doctor Who would be delighted to investigate too lol.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e5/24/f1/e524f1f393882487dc14b93741eae689.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="292" data-original-width="540" height="145" src="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e5/24/f1/e524f1f393882487dc14b93741eae689.gif" width="268" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Iwan was also a nice surprise; I adored his heartfelt and slightly innocent nature as he also matured through his interaction with Clementine. Not to mention I love lemon pie too so I now want someone to feed me lemon pie...pretty please?</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://media.tenor.com/TxOOeCpWzPoAAAAC/when-harry-met-sally.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="142" data-original-width="244" height="142" src="https://media.tenor.com/TxOOeCpWzPoAAAAC/when-harry-met-sally.gif" width="244" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Overall, this was yet another amazing read by Ashley Poston. Knockout follows Imogen Loveless the scientist, explosions megamind and one of Hell's Belles as she investigates along with her friends a series of mysterious explosions across London. As Imogen and her investigation slowly gather dangerous attention, she comes across again with Investigator Thomas Peck. Who has a good head on his shoulders and quite an inquisitive mind; Thomas knows something is afoot and he can not stop by being both aggravated and fascinated with Imogen and her character.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Yet knowing how difficult it would be for him to be with her due to his social station and his past, he tries to get closer to her in other ways. Not that Imogen minds or doesn't try to make fun of him. But she also has her own insecurities, stemming from quite a troubled past.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Plot aside, what drew me most in this book was character development. We have two people who have their own history and despite this social structure they try to bridge said gap. The most reluctant here is Thomas and you'll have to read the book to find out why.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Imogen on the other hand, my lovely Sagittarius (I got confirmation by Sarah Maclean herself), she is the one I mostly relate to. She is bring and smart and does not want to conform to the roles of a female of the 19th century, she wants science and studies and explosions but also she wants to feel desired and loved and respected for who she truly is and not what her title and status makes her to be. She feels insecure about her weight and body, about what others may think of her, despite being surrounded by her group of friends who would move sky and earth for her. That is why she struck so much to me because there are times I feel the same, just like her.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The romance was off the rails, like a perfect book by Sarah, the dialogue between Imogen and Thomas was hilarious, yet the beauty of this romance was how Thomas loves her for exactly who she is: explosions and all.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://media.tenor.com/ZMgYP7w3HPAAAAAd/klee-explosion.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="640" height="239" src="https://media.tenor.com/ZMgYP7w3HPAAAAAd/klee-explosion.gif" width="424" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">(Klee is a character from the game Genshin Impact)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Also, we did have some cameos with a couple of my other one favorite book by Sarah! Separated by vast wilderness teeming with monsters and unimaginable dangers, each city is now ruled by a guardian―royalty who feed on mortal pleasure.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Born with an intuition that never fails, Calista knows her talents are of great value to the power-hungry of the world, so she lives hidden as a courtesan of the Baron of Archwood. In exchange for his protection, she grants him information.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">When her intuition leads her to save a traveling prince in dire trouble, the voice inside her blazes with warning―and promise. Today he’ll bring her joy. One day he'll be her doom.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">When the Baron takes an interest in the traveling prince and the prince takes an interest in Calista, she becomes the prince’s temporary companion. But the city simmers with rebellion, and with knights and monsters at her city gates and a hungry prince in her bed, intuition may not be enough to keep her safe.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Calista must follow her intuition to safety or follow her heart to her downfall.</div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>PRE-ORDER ON </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BQGHTPMG/ref=x_gr_w_bb_sin?ie=UTF8&tag=x_gr_w_bb_sin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0BQGHTPMG&SubscriptionId=1MGPYB6YW3HWK55XCGG2">AMAZON</a> | <a href="https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/Fall-of-Ruin-and-Wrath-by-Jennifer-L-Armentrout/9781035027378">BLACKWELL'S</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>SPECIAL EDITIONS</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv91QYTNgxD/?img_index=1">FAIRYLOOT</a> | <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CwGGAbIMI5n/">OWLCRATE</a> | <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CwGaXiuvlK0/">BOOKISH BOX</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div><p><b>I received an e-ARC from the author and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. </b><br /><br /></p><div style="text-align: justify;">Oh boy, how do I even start writing this review? This year marks my 10 years of reading Jennifer Armentrout, Obsidian being her first book which had introduced me to YA sci-fi and Daemon of course. Now 10 years later, lots of JLA men after, and here we are, being introduced to a new world with new characters and a pretty different concept.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Some things to consider: this is an ADULT romantsy (romance+fantasy) book. There is violence, death, and some scary moments, but all the above are handled masterfully so you won't get scared...a lot.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://media.tenor.com/8rAXolE-CYwAAAAM/spongebob-scared.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="164" data-original-width="220" height="164" src="https://media.tenor.com/8rAXolE-CYwAAAAM/spongebob-scared.gif" width="220" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Calista, or Lis lives in one of the cities ruled by a Baron. All smaller cities defer to the bigger ones which are ruled by the Highborn with the King being the ruler of all. This world is the remains of the previous one which somehow was destroyed the way the characters as of now are aware of, from the gods.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There are some clues in the book that keyed me in and threw my brain into a spiral of conspiracy but I won't get to it now.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://wgbh.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/d94eb4a/2147483647/strip/true/crop/480x304+0+0/resize/854x541!/format/jpg/quality/70/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwgbh.brightspotcdn.com%2F4a%2F3a%2F82d326e943cd8e9c2a4107e1e54a%2Fgiphy-2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="304" data-original-width="480" height="220" src="https://wgbh.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/d94eb4a/2147483647/strip/true/crop/480x304+0+0/resize/854x541!/format/jpg/quality/70/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwgbh.brightspotcdn.com%2F4a%2F3a%2F82d326e943cd8e9c2a4107e1e54a%2Fgiphy-2.gif" width="347" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Lis has a gift, a heightened intuition that almost gives her visions of the future or can alert her to something happening around her. Even it causes her to avoid danger to herself and her best friend Grady. They were both orphans who found their way into working for the Baron.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">What you all need to understand here is that the Highborn feed on pleasure, so it is quite common to have...activities that enhance their need to feed, and that is something that is celebrated in this society, at least to a point as Highborn can be quite terrifying.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Which brings us back to Lis. She discovers unwillingly a plot to destroy such a Highborn Prince and she saves him. What no one expects is for that Prince to have quite a certain reputation and be feared by all.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.gifer.com/72bv.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="274" data-original-width="498" height="205" src="https://i.gifer.com/72bv.gif" width="372" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Thorne is quite the morally gray character. If you thought that Seth or Cas was morally gray, then Throne wins the prize here. His motives are not quite clear but his attraction to Lis is. And while the book slowly builds up, we get the ground set for the worldbuilding, the inner politics, and the struggle that lies beneath the surface between Highborn and Lowborn, meaning the rest of the population. Add in a possible revolt that tries to overthrow the king and we have quite the dangerous mix that could destroy everyone.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">To be honest, up until 70% of the book the pace was steady but I knew that Jennifer would throw me the bomb in the plot at some point. What I did not expect was what followed after 70% which made an episode of The Walking Dead look like an amusement park visit. The fear for Lis and the other characters was real and the ending that followed was quite the one I did not anticipate.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://media.tenor.com/wT82bj4GLKwAAAAC/holly-shit-shocked.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="210" data-original-width="498" height="167" src="https://media.tenor.com/wT82bj4GLKwAAAAC/holly-shit-shocked.gif" width="395" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now after that cliffhanger, I'll have to wait another year, and this book has not even been released yet!</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So if any of you gets to read it I am open for discussion!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Overall Jennifer Armentrout masterfully introduces us to a new world with characters that will be unforgettable in their own unique way! Totally recommended.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://media.tenor.com/H191prZk8uMAAAAC/beauty-and-the-beast-belle.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="278" data-original-width="498" height="180" src="https://media.tenor.com/H191prZk8uMAAAAC/beauty-and-the-beast-belle.gif" width="322" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><b>About the author:</b></p><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1552568126p5/4476934.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="177" height="266" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1552568126p5/4476934.jpg" width="177" /></a></div><span><div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: inherit;"># 1 New York Times and # 1 International Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Charles Town, West Virginia. This series sits on the top of my favorite ones from this author, counting in a companion book that is coming plus a wholly new series later this year.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Needless to say that while this book works as an alternative version of book one seen from Hawke's POV, it is also a sequel because some things happen, as it goes back and forth in time, leaving me with so many questions to the point where Kierran would roll his eyes at me as he does to Poppy.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The book picks up from the end of War of Two Queens, where Poppy and co deal with the aftermath of the colossal battle that rattled everyone. When something happens to Poppy leading her to fall into a coma, Cas stays by her side, and in order to keep her (and also his) sanity untouched he begins narrating how he first met her and from there, we go back to the beginning.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I love reading dual POV books, same had happened with the Lux series where we got after the end of the series Daemon's POV when he has first met Katy.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The difference here is that we also get more tidbits of information and clues to the actual villain which in turn weaves into the tapestry of all this intricate story Jennifer so masterfully writes across 5 books so far. Plus for those of you who also read the Flesh and Fire series you get my meaning when some scenes reveal closer relations to characters across both series.</div></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://wgbh.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/d94eb4a/2147483647/strip/true/crop/480x304+0+0/resize/854x541!/format/jpg/quality/70/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwgbh.brightspotcdn.com%2F4a%2F3a%2F82d326e943cd8e9c2a4107e1e54a%2Fgiphy-2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="304" data-original-width="480" height="190" src="https://wgbh.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/d94eb4a/2147483647/strip/true/crop/480x304+0+0/resize/854x541!/format/jpg/quality/70/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwgbh.brightspotcdn.com%2F4a%2F3a%2F82d326e943cd8e9c2a4107e1e54a%2Fgiphy-2.gif" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">I loved reading Cas's/Hawke's POV. The man knows how to be sarcastic yet very set on his ideals...at least when he meets Poppy in the Red Pearl. Also, we see how traumatized he really is from his time in the underground and the torture he endured. PTSD is never an easy battle to have.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">And the action scenes up until the...snow scene were *chef's kiss*</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Overall this was a spectacular book, an amazing addition to the rest of the series and I can not wait to see how this story will end! Having read in March, I was so excited and filled with FEELS...but burnout got the better of me and I lost any mental strength to do this review.<br /><br />But now after almost 2 months and especially after I saw the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CsjgH0drCMW/" rel="nofollow noopener">cover reveal</a> of the second book, I decided to properly fangirl about this fantastic book.<br /><br />I did get some slight feels of the Undertaking of Hart and Mercy, especially on the anonymous letter exchange but trust me the plot and the story are way too different, both equally splendid.<br /><br />Iris Winnow is a young article writer in the <i>Oath Gazette</i>, a newspaper which covers among other things the coming war between gods. In this fantasy world, forces of good and evil, personified in the forms of sleeping gods, are warring with one another as two of them have woken up and the humans must choose a side.<br /><br />As the face of war reveals the true nature of some humans Iris tries to keep her family together and worries over her brother who has been missing on the front lines.<br /><br />Her sadness leads her to type letters and slide them under the wardrobe of her home; but she does not realize that they reach the hands of Roman Kitt, who is also her adversary at work. As circumstances lead them closer to one another, and the threat of war looms closer, they will fall for one another, in a tale I am pretty sure already has gripped me by the heartstrings.<br /><br />I really do not want to spoil the story too much. There are some parts of humor scattered here and there but the human relationships showcased in the coming fear of destruction and war is what gripped me also. That there can be equal brave people as also cowards, or that we need to find happiness whenever we can and treasure it because it can be fleeting.<br /><br />The ending gutted me; seriously I got SJM cliffhanger feels after this ending, and I really hope to get to read the second book! Plus I am in love with the special editions that came out especially the Owlcrate one (still waiting for my box).<br /><br />I definitely recommend this; it is unique and beautiful and so emotional, you'll not be able to put it down!<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.gifer.com/origin/69/69d6c86108a0cbbe814c345ef0ae51b6.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="281" data-original-width="500" height="188" src="https://i.gifer.com/origin/69/69d6c86108a0cbbe814c345ef0ae51b6.gif" width="335" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p></div><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1655904642p5/14926516.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="177" height="266" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1655904642p5/14926516.jpg" width="177" /></a></div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Rebecca Ross is the New York Times and #1 Sunday Times Bestselling author of fantasy novels for teens and adults. Her series <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/211788-the-legend-of-all-wolves" rel="nofollow noopener">Legends of all Wolves</a> is a must-read that brings together our love for the paranormal but with the sensitivity and deep love for nature as also romance.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This book gave me great vibes of "Meet Joe Black" and "The Ghost".</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Molly Molloy and the Angel of Death was quite the wild ride. I knew that I just wanted to read it, despite the premise which always makes me cry because anything metaphysical always hits that spot in my heart that knows....that we don't know anything about the after.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Death is...not exactly an angel but a being beyond time and creation itself who has been demoted into gathering the souls of mortals...which he so drily pulls from the bodies he calls Rags, and sends them...Upstairs. I loved the sarcastic way he does the job? Like a public sector worker who just does the routine and finds no satisfaction in anything anymore.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">And then when he goes to pull the soul of a Molloy, he realizes that he can be seen and that the woman whom he should he taken the soul is still alive.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Molly Molloy lives her life, without actually living, filled with grief and a dry sense of humor which was born of circumstances of pain and loss. When she realizes who and what Death is, a strange companionship will bloom between them, one that will defy the powers of...Upstairs.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There is a lot of emotion to unpack here. From the way, Molly slowly and surely integrates Death into human life to Death's understanding of how precious life is, despite being short for humans. It's almost comely how often he acts like a child or a teenager with his behavior and Molly is the one being the adult in the relationship. Additionally, I found the description of how Upstairs looks like quite hilarious, the combination of Latin for their rules and the idea that souls are connected to the human body through the omphalos (greek word for bellybutton-also an ancient mythological belief-) was a nice touch.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The ending had me crying but as Death <i>adjusts to change</i>, you slowly realize that his story never ends, and love can come and find him again through endless time.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This was one of the best books of 2023 for me and I totally recommend it.</div><br /><br /><p> </p></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1598978999p5/16799466.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="200" height="235" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1598978999p5/16799466.jpg" width="177" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Maria Vale is a journalist who has worked for Publishers Weekly, Glamour, Redbook and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Kindly keep in mind that this review contains mild spoilers from the first book, which you can find my review of <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4355381135" rel="nofollow noopener">here</a>.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">After the events of the first book, Valtu tries to process his own grief but that leads to some decisions that in retrospect are quite wrong; grief is a beast on its own and we all need in some way to try and deal with it, but he uses the book to cast some quite impressive spells. When Rose, the daughter of Amethyst and Wolf finds him in Germany he will realize that fate will always find him and she will help him slowly but surely to discover his feelings for her.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Add in the impending danger of the witches who have found a way to slightly become immortal and you have an explosive mix of action, swoony/hot scenes, and the ending I really wanted. We do see some cameos which connect the previous books set into this world of vampires lovely so read from start to finish all of this is quite amazing.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Karina knows how to write books that grip you and do not let you go. On the other hand, my heart and prayers go to her as she had quite an eventful year and I could feel her own sadness sipping into the words of her story. I wish her from my heart to always be surrounded by love and to have the strength to move through her own grief.</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><p class="has-text-align-left"><img alt="" class="wp-image-1991" height="163" src="https://thebooktressofsolitude.files.wordpress.com/2022/10/karinahalle.jpg?w=250" width="163" /></p>Karina Halle is a former travel writer and music journalist and The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author of The Pact, Love, in English, The Artists Trilogy, Dirty Angels and over 20 other wild and romantic reads. Summary from GoodReads</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">Lady Lucie is fuming. She and her band of Oxford suffragists have finally scraped together enough capital to control one of London’s major publishing houses, with one purpose: to use it in a coup against Parliament. Banished by her family, she makes ends up with different kinds of work but also is a strong believer or women's rights and most of all she finds ways to save them from abusive marriages.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Enter Tristan, Lord Ballentine a childhood frenemy, who has reasons of his own to become financially independent from his family. And what better way to do it than buying a publishing house to use it for his own books. There's one small hiccup; Lucie also wants the publishing house in order to promote to a wider audience her findings and propositions for the Married Women's Property Act, an amendment that would allow a married woman to remain autonomous instead of being wholly under the 'protection' of her new husband.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Which, taking into consideration that the century the book takes place, is radical on its own and has lots of enemies.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As Lucie and Tristan become more entangled with each other, they slowly realize that attraction burns hotter than hate.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There was one part of the book that I did not like; how Tristan thought he could get what he wanted but also his idea that he would be untouched by his feelings for Lucie. Dude, you were lying to yourself. But he learned his lesson the hardest way.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I loved, loved Lucie in this book. She is so strong and angry at the world on behalf of all women, she wants something better for them and for the future and she doesn't stay silent about it. Her friends are there supporting each other and I feel this is by far the best example of female friendship in the historical romance books I have read this year (as of now).</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I loved how this book took us out of the glittering ballrooms and the cotton-candy ideas of a victorian marriage and make us see how in truth most marriages were actually a financial trade where a woman and her dowry were a purse for the husbands and that didn't always translate into a companionship but even to an abusive marriage.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The romance and yearning were off the charts. Evie knows how to write scenes that are both tender and sexy but also beautifully emotional.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I enjoyed this very much and my next review will be for my sweet Hattie!</div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><div style="text-align: center;"><b>And don't miss the <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/253592-a-league-of-extraordinary-women">rest books</a> of this amazing series!</b></div><p><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b></p><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1548783382p5/18775709.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="220" data-original-width="200" height="220" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1548783382p5/18775709.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Evie Dunmore is the USA TODAY Bestselling author of The League of Extraordinary Women series.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Sign up for bonus content & sneak peeks: </span><a href="http://www.eviedunmore.com/newsletter" rel="noopener nofollow" style="background-color: white; color: #00635d; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">www.eviedunmore.com/newsletter</a><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Evie wrote The League of Extraordinary Women inspired by the magical scenery of Oxford and her passion for romance, women pioneers, and all things Victorian. Summary from GoodReads</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><em style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">England, 1879.</em><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;"> Annabelle Archer, the brilliant but destitute daughter of a country vicar, has earned herself a place among the first cohort of female students at the renowned University of Oxford. In return for her scholarship, she must support the rising women's suffrage movement. Her charge: recruit men of influence to champion their cause. Her target: Sebastian Devereux, the cold and calculating Duke of Montgomery who steers Britain's politics at the Queen's command. Her challenge: not to give in to the powerful attraction she can't deny for the man who opposes everything she stands for.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #1e1915;"><br /></span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">Sebastian is appalled to find a suffragist squad has infiltrated his ducal home, but the real threat is his impossible feelings for green-eyed beauty Annabelle. I have been eyeing this series appearing on both my friends' social media and here so I decided to read the books back to back as by the time this review is being written so far three books have been published.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We begin in England, in 1879. Annabelle Archer who is very smart and thirsts for knowledge is destitute by social standards and also a woman, meaning that by gender isolation only she is not allowed to do many things. But lucky for her, she gets to go to Oxford University and study with a fellowship granted to her by the suffragette movement. All she has to do is attend the meetings and target wealthy and influential gentlemen who may support the cause for women's rights.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Enter the Duke of Montgomery, one of the most terrifying and influential men in the political scene who navigates politics under his Queen's Orders. His chance meeting with Annabelle and a series of encounters will lead them both to slowly gravitate toward one another.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There was so much slow burn here! I enjoyed this very much! I loved the writing and the realistic depictions of a woman's struggles in the Victorian era far removed from the rose-tinted glasses we usually see in period movies and dramas. It felt quite much like my university studies when we would discuss gender equality and how social standards, men-dominated societies, and misconception would lead bright women, amazingly strong women to be cast out of the social circles of their time.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I loved the friends Annabelle made, Catriona, Lucy, and Hattie. It was amazing seeing how they all come from different sides of life yet they become such great friends! Lucy in particular is also the leader of the movement's chapter and she deals with so much.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There is a wide bibliography, outside the fiction of the novel, that is very enlightening in this matter and I do implore you to take time and read it as it sheds light on this fight for equality which is (even now) an ongoing battle.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The romance was very well written, but the emotional struggle for both the Duke and Annabelle was off the charts and I plan to re-read this or listen to the audiobook.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Definitely recommended!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>And don't miss the <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/253592-a-league-of-extraordinary-women">rest books</a> of this amazing series!</b></div><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1548783382p5/18775709.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="220" data-original-width="200" height="220" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1548783382p5/18775709.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Evie Dunmore is the USA TODAY Bestselling author of The League of Extraordinary Women series.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Sign up for bonus content & sneak peeks: </span><a href="http://www.eviedunmore.com/newsletter" rel="noopener nofollow" style="background-color: white; color: #00635d; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">www.eviedunmore.com/newsletter</a><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Evie wrote The League of Extraordinary Women inspired by the magical scenery of Oxford and her passion for romance, women pioneers, and all things Victorian. Summary from GoodReads</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><i>After All the Feels and Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade once again delivers a warm and wonderful romantic comedy about two co-stars who once had an incredible one-night stand—and after years of filming on the same remote island, are finally ready to yield to temptation again…</i></b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><p style="text-align: left;"></p><div style="text-align: justify;">Maria’s one-night-stand—the thick-thighed, sexy Viking of a man she left without a word or a note—just reappeared. Apparently, Peter’s her surly Gods of the Gates co-star, and they’re about to spend the next six years filming on a desolate Irish island together. She still wants him…but he now wants nothing to do with her.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Peter knows this role could finally transform him from a forgettable character actor into a leading man. He also knows a failed relationship with Maria could poison the set, and he won’t sabotage his career for a woman who’s already walked away from him once. Given time, maybe they can be cooperative colleagues or friends—possibly even best friends—but not lovers again. No matter how much he aches for her.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">For years, they don’t touch off-camera. But on their last night of filming, their mutual restraint finally shatters, and all their pent-up desire explodes into renewed passion. Too bad they still don’t have a future together, since Peter’s going back to Hollywood, while Maria’s returning to her native Sweden. She thinks she needs more than he can give her, but he’s determined to change her mind, and he’s spent the last six years waiting. Watching. Wanting.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">His shipwrecked Swede doesn’t stand a chance.</div><p></p></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>BUY ON </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/006321587X/ref=x_gr_w_bb_sin?ie=UTF8&tag=x_gr_w_bb_sin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=006321587X&SubscriptionId=1MGPYB6YW3HWK55XCGG2">AMAZON</a> | <a href="https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=5478&awinaffid=1160203&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bookdepository.com%2FShip-Wrecked-Olivia-Dade%2F9780063215870">BOOK DEPOSITORY</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div><div><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;"><br /></span></i></u></b></div><p><br /></p><p><b><br /></b></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><b>Disclaimer: This review was for my <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CjYGNIXroHV/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">Illumicrate copy</a> and the special edition that complimented the first two books also re-designed by Illumicrate. A gorgeous special edition indeed!</b></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This series has been with me since 2020 when covid was in session, I was quarantined like the rest of the planet and I wanted some fluff. "Spoiler Alert" the first book of the series reminded me of my fanfiction <a href="https://www.wattpad.com/user/Alexandra_92" rel="nofollow noopener">Wattpad</a> days where I would write and write and write and by then I had fallen in love with Olivia's characters.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now close to 3 years later the series ends with this amazing final book about Maria and Peter, two people who have lots and lots of pent-up feelings for each other and yet circumstances force them to hide it.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">So we begin with... one night stand where Peter, an actor who hopes to make his biggest success on tv is found with Maria, a Swede theatre actress who hopes to find a new job in the USA, hopefully also close to cinema or tv. Both have a great time and the next day they realize that both have been cast together to work for a fictional (for the book) show, similar to a "Game of Thrones" series.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Feelings aside and misunderstandings lead both Maria and Peter to Ireland where they will film their own part of the show for the next six years! As their muddled relationship morphs into a friendship both Maria and Peter will forge new friendships but also try to navigate their growing feelings of attraction for each other amidst Hollywood contracts, fan bases, and misogynistic and stupid producers.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The book was *chef's kiss* amazing. Peter was amazing with Maria and their dialogue was one of the funniest I have ever read. It felt so natural and true as if I was listening to them talking. The pacing was good and steady giving time to develop the characters' relationships and trials but what I loved most was the theme of found family, one not created by blood but of love and affection.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I can detect Olivia's Swedish camaraderie here and it was very funny to be able to see Sweden even from the eyes of Peter who, poor fellow, went there to meet with Maria's family.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The series ended in the best way I could ever hope, solidifying Olivia's amazing way of bringing unique yet realistic characters to life both with humor, love, and the trials that come with any relationship.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Definitely recommended and I plan to re-read it again</div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><b>About the author:</b></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1430002906p5/13787449.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="177" height="200" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1430002906p5/13787449.jpg" width="133" /></a></div><p><span><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">While I was growing up, my mother kept a stack of books hidden in her closet. She told me I couldn't read them. So, naturally, whenever she left me alone for any length of time, I took them out and flipped through them. Those books raised quite a few questions in my prepubescent brain. Namely: 1) Why were there so many pirates? 2) Where did all the throbbing come from? 3) What was a "manhood"? 4) And why did the hero and heroine seem overcome by images of waves and fireworks every few pages, especially after an episode of mysterious throbbing in the hero's manhood?</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Thirty or so years later, I have a few answers. 1) Because my mom apparently fancied pirates at that time. Now she hoards romances involving cowboys and babies. If a book cover features a shirtless man in a Stetson cradling an infant, her ovaries basically explode and her credit card emerges. I have a similar reaction to romances involving spinsters, governesses, and librarians. 2) His manhood. Also, her womanhood. 3) It's his "hard length," sometimes compared in terms of rigidity to iron. I prefer to use other names for it in my own writing. However, I am not picky when it comes to descriptions of iron-hard lengths. 4) Because explaining how an orgasm feels can prove difficult. Or maybe the couples all had sex on New Year's Eve at Cancun.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">During those thirty years, I accomplished a few things. I graduated from Wake Forest University and earned my M.A. in American History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I worked at a variety of jobs that required me to bury my bawdiness and potty mouth under a demure exterior: costumed interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg, high school teacher, and librarian. But I always, always read romances. Funny, filthy, sweet--it didn't matter. I loved them all.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">Now I'm writing my own romances with the encouragement of my husband and daughter. I have my own stack of books in my closet that I'd rather my daughter not read, at least not for a few years. I can swear whenever I want, except around said daughter. And I get to spend all day writing about love and iron-hard lengths.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818;">So thank you, Mom, for perving so hard on pirates during my childhood. Yasmin is ineligible for his attentions in every way: not as a wife, certainly not as a mistress (she is a lady!), nor even as a friend, since they vehemently dislike each other. Her gowns are too low, and her skirts are dampened to cling to admittedly lovely thighs. She loves to gossip--and giggle.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1e1915; margin: 0px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1915; font-family: inherit;">She isn't dignified, or polite, or even truly British, given that her father's French ancestry clearly predominated. I was approved for an ARC of one of Eloisa Jame's books and I could be happier! When Beauty tamed the Beast is one of my top favorite historical romances and The Reluctant Countess made me very happy.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">So we have Giles, the Earl of Lilford who tries to hold onto the reputation of his family's good name or whatever is left of it and on the other hand, we have Lady Yasmin a gorgeous French woman with a past that riles up the gossip in the stuffy higher British society. Honestly, if even half of what we read in these books was true those aristocrats were worse than the trashiest social media.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">So our stuffy Earl is looking for a proper wife, one who can fix his family's tarnished reputation, but he can't help but be attracted to Yasmin. Add in a sister who needed some good slaps into her system, a grandpa who is quite awesome and a strong pure female friendship and you have a signature Eloisa James novel with its funny moments and the angst which we all love.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I enjoyed Yasmin; she is truly a character who has her issues from the past she suffered from, but she grows as a person and finds her own worth despite what society wants to label her as. Giles needed some shocks to his system to wake up but I'll forgive him as he manages to save face.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This is a delightful read and if you like historical romances then this is for you. Her novels have been published to great acclaim. A reviewer from USA Today wrote of Eloisa's very first book that she "found herself devouring the book like a dieter with a Hershey bar"; later People Magazine raved that "romance writing does not get much better than this." Her novels have repeatedly received starred reviews from Publishers' Weekly and Library Journal and regularly appear on the best-seller lists.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">After graduating from Harvard University, Eloisa got an M.Phil. from Oxford University, a Ph.D. from Yale and eventually became a Shakespeare professor, publishing an academic book with Oxford University Press. Summary from GoodReads</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><i><b>A woman with the gift to speak to the dead—and the assassin pursuing her—may be the only chance a crumbling empire has of holding back true evil, in this electrifying fantasy romance from the USA Today bestselling author of Radiance.</b></i></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Siora has been on the run for longer than she cares to remember, from her past and her gift. Born with the ability to see and speak to ghosts, she has heard their desperate pleas as an otherworldly predator stalks the dead amid the fertile killing fields of the collapsing Krael Empire. The creature’s power and reach are growing with every soul it consumes, but Siora is preoccupied with her own troubles: namely an assassin who has sworn an oath of vengeance against her.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Gharek of Cabast was once the right-hand man of the reviled empress but is now a wanted fugitive. Although his reasons for hunting Siora are viscerally personal, what Gharek can’t anticipate is that when he finally does find her, she will hold the key to saving his world, or what’s left of it. To make good on old debts and protect the vulnerable dead from a malevolent force, Gharek and Siora will both need to make an ally out of an enemy—and trust that will be enough to save each other.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>BUY ON </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09S316PYK/ref=x_gr_bb_amazon?ie=UTF8&tag=x_gr_bb_amazon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B09S316PYK&SubscriptionId=1MGPYB6YW3HWK55XCGG2">AMAZON</a> | <a href="https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=5478&awinaffid=1160203&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bookdepository.com%2FRaven-Unveiled-Grace-Draven%2F9780451489791%3Fref%3Dgrid-view%26qid%3D1669014101190%26sr%3D1-1">BOOK DEPOSITORY</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">The final book of the Fallen Empire series takes across a war-torn crumbling world where a man seeks revenge against a woman whose eyes see more than they should.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The Krael Empire has fallen and Gharek, the now-burnt-to a crisp- Empress is seeking Siora the woman whom he had trusted with his daughter's caretaking and who to his eyes had betrayed his trust. Siora on the other hand has the ability to see ghosts and their pleas lead her toward an old abandoned city where a sinister force is seeking to devour everything both dead and alive.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As politics and danger bring both of them together they will need to put away their old feuds in favor of both saving their lives and that of the child they both care about.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I always enjoy Grace's writing, there is a strong sense of world-building and the characters are never lost in it. You can understand how their feeling affects those around them and the setting enhances those scenes. Gharek and Siora were amazing; both flawed both tortured by the past but both love so fiercely even if they do not want to admit it to each other. I enjoyed this book as much as I had the others. While for some plot-wise there is not much action there is this sense of urgency that drives them to beat this unseen enemy.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This was a very satisfying ending to a series that could easily be on par with other fantasy-based worlds of Empires, ruthless emperors, and people filled with magic who love fiercely. Definitely recommended</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <a href="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/51/6a/1f/516a1f23d23efe6c96b7eb6b13db86df.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="281" data-original-width="500" height="175" src="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/51/6a/1f/516a1f23d23efe6c96b7eb6b13db86df.gif" width="311" /></a><br /><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1318912237p5/2759153.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="188" height="213" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1318912237p5/2759153.jpg" width="151" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Grace Draven is a Louisiana native living in Texas with her husband, kids and a big, doofus dog. Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series…</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension. That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>PRE-ORDER ON </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09YMS96FN/ref=x_gr_bb_amazon?ie=UTF8&tag=x_gr_bb_amazon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B09YMS96FN&SubscriptionId=1MGPYB6YW3HWK55XCGG2">AMAZON</a> | <a href="https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=5478&awinaffid=1160203&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bookdepository.com%2FA-Light-in-the-Flame%2F9781957568041">BOOK DEPOSITORY</a></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><i><span style="color: magenta;">REVIEW</span></i></u></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. It took me close to two weeks to gather my thoughts on this book and find the guts to write a review that explains why I am still in a deep pit of feelings that no one can -still- understand and also try to not spoiler anything.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">No pressure.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">A Light in the Flame picks up shortly after the events of the first book, where Sera's true purpose is revealed and despite the distrust she gets from Nyktos's court...well she is right. Being brought up as a weapon and not a human being can cause lots of issues in any human psyche. And that is where we find Sera throughout the book.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">On a gradual journey to uncover the mystery behind a way to save their world from the Rot, usurp Kolis, restore the balance between Life and Death, and not die in the process, all the while battling her feelings for Nyktos and trying to see the value in her own self through the eyes of others.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I loved the character development here. For it felt like the plot was going quite slowly but it was within those scenes that you could get hints of various plot crumbs here and there. I love Nektas the dude has no filter for a drakken and baby Jadis and Reaver were adorable. Did I also get some Rhysand-feels when I read about Nyktos transforming into...something? (insert anime screaming here).</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">And the battles were great too and very well described. Not to mention the....intimate moments *wink wink*</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Another part I did get the chance to read about was Kolis's court. That Primal is indeed really nuts and crazy. Not to mention that by the time the ending was drawing near I became more and more anxious about what would happen because while the book was a gradual and steady development, the last chapters were a rollercoaster of emotions and revelations that left me crying.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The ending as mentioned was a cliffhanger and I am still not ok. Will I survive it? I survived Jennifer's Opal when it had first come out and that is a statement :P</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Absolutely recommended and I can not wait for you to read it when it releases!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>And don't miss the first book of the <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/313223-flesh-and-fire">prequel series</a> and the starting point of <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/321784-blood-and-ash">From Blood and Ash</a> series</b></div><br /><br /><b>About the author:</b><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1552568126p5/4476934.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="177" height="266" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1552568126p5/4476934.jpg" width="177" /></a></div><span><div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: inherit;"># 1 New York Times and # 1 International Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Charles Town, West Virginia. <!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">My body wants to bring him to my apartment. I’m craving his touch like nothing else. But I can’t. Not in the state I left it and not with a possible demon still inside. I can only hope it left through the open window; I assume that’s how it got in. But my knowledge of demons doesn’t go very far. I never thought I would have to deal with any of this.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“I have an exam tomorrow,” I suddenly blurt out.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">He widens his eyes and nods, taking a step back, though his hand is still firmly holding onto mine. “So you do.” He clears his throat loudly. “I’m guessing you need to study.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">I’d rather study you, I think, but I nod. “Yeah. Thank god I didn’t leave it all to the last minute like I usually do.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">He sucks on his lower lip for a moment and I want nothing more than to kiss him again. “I’m sure you’ll pass,” he says.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“It’s not enough to pass,” I tell him. “I want to get a good grade.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“I’m sure you’ll get a good grade,” he says in a knowing tone.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“Don’t you dare try to do me any favors,” I warn. “I need to get good grades on my own accord.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“Help you? Wouldn’t dream of it.” He gives me a convincing smile. “Still, let me finish walking you home. I promise I’ll be out of your hair.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">So we walk hand-in-hand the rest of the way, until we’re standing outside my building.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“I’m going to go upstairs now,” I tell him.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">He slides his hand around my lower back, holding me in place, while his other hand cups my jaw. “And I’m going to kiss you again.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">This time the press of his lips is so faint, so light, and yet it makes my knees tremble, my stomach to do summersaults. “Dahlia,” he says, murmuring against my mouth. “I don’t want you to be ashamed of your darkness. I don’t want you to be afraid of it. I am not a delicate man. I am brash, volatile, controlling and demanding and I always, always get what I want. What I want is your darkness to play with mine. I want to make it come so beautifully alive, so that we can revel in it together.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">He presses his lips to mine firmly then pulls away and I feel like I can’t breathe at all as he stares inches from my eyes. “I am choosing you. And if you accept me, there is no turning back.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">I try to swallow. “And what do I get out of it?” I whisper, my voice shaking slightly.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">The corner of his mouth lifts in a smirk while his eyes narrow. “You get to feel things you’d only dreamed of feeling. You get to do things you were too afraid of doing. To live in the very darkness you run from. Isn’t that you want most of all? To be so pushed past the point of terror that you no longer fear anything at all?”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">Holy shit.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“As I said,” he says gruffly, running his thumb over my lips, “I am not a delicate man. I can be rough. I can cause pain. I may make you hate me sometimes. But I will always be on your side. I will always make you feel chosen.”</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">I don’t know what the hell I’m agreeing to here but I’m nodding.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">Because I have to.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">Because I want you.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">“Then choose me,” I say softly.</p>
<!--/wp:paragraph-->
<!--wp:paragraph {"align":"center"}-->
<p class="has-text-align-center">He leans in and kisses me on the cheek. “I already did. Blood Orange shades light to the one and only vampire we all love to read in every possible retelling we can get our hands on. But in this version we get a different version of said Dracula written in the unique style of Karina Halle.</div></span><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;">The book is dark so lots of trigger warnings here. Dracula whose name actually here is Valtu, since Bram Stoker went and re-invented him lol, is a powerful vampire doomed though to find and lose his fated love across time. But now? She has come back as a witch part of a guild coven sent to kill him.</div></span><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;">I can not spoil this but let me tell you that lots happened. And the cameos we had from other books were very welcome. While this can be read as a standalone I really recommend reading the other books too because it gives a far wider image of this world and of course, you get to see the other amazing characters as well dark and twisted as they are.</div></span><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;">It is the signature amazing Karina Halle so definitely recommended.</div></span></figure><figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><br /></strong></figure><figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large" style="text-align: center;"><strong>Meet Karina</strong></figure><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" class="wp-image-2002" height="212" src="https://thebooktressofsolitude.files.wordpress.com/2022/10/karinahalle-1.jpg?w=250" width="212" /></div><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;">Karina Halle is a former travel writer and music journalist and The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author of The Pact, Love, in English, The Artists Trilogy, Dirty Angels and over 20 other wild and romantic reads.
