Tomorrow is the release of The Keepers! To celebrate the blog blitz on the 30th a teaser trailer is offered today, just to take a taste of this debut novel from a new author!

Here's the trailer!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Sixteen-year-old Isra Kalb has grown up starving in the slums of Islamabad. But hunger is only the beginning. When her father is mysteriously murdered and madness corrupts her mother's mind, she's left alone to fend for herself and her sister. Homeless and destitute, the only thing she has to remember her loving family by is a commonplace necklace--an amulet barely worth keeping.

Or so she thinks.

Swept into a web of lies, deceit and turmoil, Isra struggles to find a place for herself and Zaffirah, wondering if the strange creatures and visions she's seeing are indications of the madness that took her mother. But when Snatchers capture Zaffirah, Isra learns her amulet isn't so useless after all. Transported to Zarcane--the beastly garden where Adam and Eve were born--Isra comes face to face with her destiny. She's a Keeper, charged with protecting the borders of Zarcane and keeping the demon hordes lurking in the shadows from taking realms that are not their own. And she's not the only one; there's a second Keeper, a boy whose identity hasn't been revealed.

Now, in order to save her sister and fulfill her family's legacy as Keeper of the Amulet, she has to find the second Keeper and close the borders. Surrounded by betrayal, trapped between warring factions of angels, and desperate to save the only family she has left, Isra must decide:
Who can she trust when nothing is what it seems?

Summary from GoodReads

Raven Moore, a twenty-year-old college student from Michigan, feels out of place in the beautiful, treacherous jungles of Cameroon, staying in the habitat where her father gave his life to help protect endangered gorillas. He left home years ago; now Raven refuses to return home until she unravels the truth about his last days.

Raven certainly doesn’t count on crossing paths with a handsome young hunter—especially one as charismatic and intense as Jospin Tondjii. Instantly, she’s hooked. But Jospin is hiding a dark truth: He is the heir to a powerful poaching empire, part of a ruthless black market that is responsible for the dwindling gorilla population.

Their fathers may have been enemies, but Raven and Jospin forge a bond that goes beyond blood, a relationship that is tested as Raven draws closer to the source of her father’s death. Can she and Jospin bear the weight of the secrets of the wild—and the secrets of their pasts? Or will the rain forest destroy them both?

REVIEW

*Recieved and eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

Raven moves to Cameroon after her father's death. He used to help saving the gorillas but her grief and hatred doesn't allow her to see thebeauty of the endagered spieces. Everything changes when she meets Jospin, who harbors secrets of his own.

Firstly, I liked the fact that the author wrote the book about the gorillas; they are one of many endagered species and the plot surrounds this fact. The romance blooms between the characters, not the insta-kind but enough to have strong scenes. Also, the mystery thickens at the ending leaving enough spoilers for the next book.

Overall it's an enjoyable read with teachings about the value of life and nature.

Review: The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey

The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

REVIEW

Did you think that you knew sci-fi with E.T and ALIEN or even X-Files?

You are completely wrong! With "the 5th Wave" you will change your mind concerning sci-fi novels. While I was avoiding the book because of the summary, yes I didn't like the summary (shoot me please), when i read the prologue i got so hooked with the plot and I didn't put it down.

There were points in which i screamed

and some in which i even cried.

Cassie lived through the 4 Waves, 4 actions of the Others (aliens duh), which managed to destroy humankind in almost six months. Her quest? To save her brother, and just survive the 5th Wave.

I want to stand at the POVs first. We have three POVs, two on the first and one on the third. There are many books that have passed these two months from my hands and I was very ecstacic reading multiple POVs. It isn't confusing and the story goes on smoothly.

As for the characters? I am going to spot on Cassie because the rest are indeed spoilers ;)
She is a character with deep thoughts, strong emotions and really, really agonizing feelings. She is the fine example of how humanity can become in dire times and how thin are the lines between good and evil, love and hate and even insanity. here were many points in which she wondered what would become of her and if she would have her mind, if she could manage to survive.

Overall, "The 5th Wave" is a gripping, strong novel with unique and soon to be on the big screen characters!! :)

"Rock Courtship" takes place in the time between the story line of "Rock Addiction". Furthermore we get more depth on David's and Thea's relatioship as also many hot scenes! I liked the novella a lot. It was intense, heart loving and funny. The ending was fulfilling for both the characters, especially on the last lines. Nalini has proven herself to be the master conductor on creating great characters on both contemporary and Paranormal genres.

So what do you think? Have you read any of Nalini's other titles?

Summary from GoodReads

In Kalin Matthew's world, elementals control the forces of nature. They are divided into four courts: air, woodland, fire, and water. At sixteen she will leave the life she's built with her mortal mother. Kalin will move to Avalon to rule with her father—the elemental king of the air court. Along the way, she's attacked by a fire court assassin and saved by Rowan, a swoon-worthy elemental with a questionable past.

Worst of all, she learns her father is missing.

To rescue him, Kalin will have to work with a judgmental council and a system of courts too busy accusing each other of deceit to actually be able to help her. But, they aren’t her biggest challenge. With the Midwinter’s Ball only five days away, Kalin must take over her father’s duties, which includes shifting control of the elements—power Kalin has yet to realize.

As Rowan attempts to train her, a war looms between the four courts. If Kalin fails, her father will die and the courts will fall, but the betrayal she’s about to uncover may cost her even more...

REVIEW

A strong story with humor, magic, adventure and romance!

Kalin is the daughter of the Air King, one of the four rulers of Avalon. When the day of her birthday comes and she has to depart for her father's kingdom she gets attacked by an assasin of the fire court.

And from there the mystery begins.

Kalin has the traits to become a strong heroine. At the beginning you get the impression that she is naive and a little silly yet as the story unfolds she becomes stronger.
Rowan is a surprise. Despite his past he evolves into a capable warrior as also grows warmer towards Kalin.

Overall this is a story at the style of J. Armentrout's books and I can't wait for the sequel!

 STAY WITH ME TRAILER:

                                                                  EXCERPT:

As I lay there, trying to swallow a loud, obnoxious yawn, I remembered something he’d said when we first met, about life being too short. I imagined he had firsthand experience with shortened lives while he was serving. That mentality came from experience. I got that now. Could even understand it, but there was something I didn’t understand.
“Why?” I asked.
There was a beat. “Why what?”
Jax sounded tired, and I should shut up or point out that I was now tired and could sleep, so he could leave. But I didn’t. “Why are you here? You don’t know me and . . .” I trailed off, because there really wasn’t anything left to say.
A minute went by, and he hadn’t answered my question, and then I think another minute ticked on, and I was okay with him not answering because maybe he didn’t even know. Or maybe he was just bored and that was why he was here.
But then he moved.
Jax pressed against my back, and the next breath I took got stuck in my throat. My eyes shot open. The sheet and blanket were between us, but they felt like nothing.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Getting comfortable.” He dropped an arm over my waist, and my entire body jerked against his. “It’s time to sleep I think.”
“But—”
“You can’t sleep when you talk,” he remarked.
“You don’t need to be all up on me,” I pointed out.
His answering chuckle stirred the hair along the back of my neck. “Honey, I’m not all up on you.”
I freaking begged to differ on that point. I started to wiggle away, but the arm around my waist tightened, holding me in place.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he announced casually, as if he wasn’t holding me prisoner in the bed.
Okay. The whole prisoner thing might be melodramatic, but he wasn’t letting me up. Not when he was getting all kinds of comfy behind me.
Oh my God, this was spooning. Total spooning. I was spooning with an honorary member of the Hot Guy Brigade. Did I wake up in a parallel universe?
“Sleep,” he demanded, as if the one word carried that much power. “Go to sleep, Calla.” This time his voice was softer, quieter.
“Yeah, it doesn’t work that way, Jax. You have a nice voice, but it doesn’t hold the power to make me sleep on your command.”
He chuckled.
I rolled my eyes, but the most ridiculous thing ever was the fact that after a couple of minutes, my eyes stayed shut. I . . . I actually settled in against him. With his front pressed to my back, his long legs cradling mine, and his arm snug around my waist, I actually did feel safe. More than that, I felt something else—something I hadn’t felt in years.
I felt cared for . . . cherished.
Which was the epitome of dumb, because I barely knew him, but feeling that, recognizing what the warm, buzzing feeling was, I fell right asleep.

Review: Dissonance by Erica O'Rourke

DissonanceDissonance by Erica O'Rourke
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Delancy Sullivan has always known there's more to reality than what people see. Every time someone makes a choice, a new, parallel world branches off from the existing one. Eating breakfast or skipping it, turning left instead of right, sneaking out instead of staying in bed ~ all of these choices create an alternate universe in which an echo self takes the road not travelled and makes the opposite decision. As a Walker, someone who can navigate between these worlds, Del's job is to keep all of the dimensions in harmony.

Normally, Del can hear the dissonant frequency that each world emits as clear as a bell. But when a training session in an off-key world goes horribly wrong, she is forbidden from Walking by the Council. But Del's not big on following the rules and she secretly starts to investigate these other worlds. Something strange connecting them and it's not just her random encounters with echo versions of the guy she likes, Simon Lane. But Del's decisions have unimaginable consequences and, as she begins to fall for the Echo Simons in each world, she draws closer to a truth that the Council of Walkers is trying to hide ~ a secret that threatens the fate of the entire multiverse.

 REVIEW

Although I began reading the book with the hope to see action and a hint of Doctor Who-like travel, I really didn't expect to have this story.

Del is a flawed character; there were times when i wanted to get into the book and kick her for her egoistic nature but as the book progressed, I saw that her choices were really motivated because of her parents and later by Simon. She felt inferior to her sister and this is a part which gets to be shown in almost every page, to my annoyance.
Simon was mostly one of the strongest characters. While he looked arrogant, he was dealing with great obstacles and many times I rooted for him, instead of Del.

The whole concerpt was really original but I would like to see quicker development on the next books.

What do you like on a sci-fi novel?

Summary from GoodReads

Nadia Conrad has big dreams, and she's determined to make them come true—for her parents' sake as well as her own. But between maintaining her college scholarship and working at the local day care to support herself, she barely has time to think, let alone date. Then she moves into a new apartment and meets the taciturn yet irresistible guy in 1B….

Daniel Tyler has grown up too fast. Becoming a single dad at twenty turned his life upside down—and brought him heartache he can't risk again. Now, as he raises his four-year-old son while balancing a full-time construction management job and night classes, a social life is out of the question. The last thing he wants is for four noisy students to move into the apartment upstairs. But one night, Nadia's and Ty's paths cross, and soon they can't stay away from each other.

The timing is all wrong—but love happens when it happens. And you can't know what you truly need until you stand to lose it.

REVIEW

A loving story about life in college, choices in life and relationships. This is the first book I've ever read from this author and I enjoyed every last sentence.

Nadia has moved from home in order to study. She moved in woth three more of her friends yet she can't take her eyes from Ty, the gorgeous man of the apartmant below, who also happens to be a dad, at 24.

Although at first the relationship between Nadia and Ty began as "frineds with benefits" quickly it developed into romance. Yet both of them had the maturity to recognise themselves for their choices.
Nadia's friends also worked into helping her woth her problems while the setting for the next two books was presented.
An enjoyable read, for the lovers of contemporary. :)

Summary from GoodReads

Open your eyes to darkness. What do you see? Does the darkness frighten you? Now imagine the darkness being the cargo hold of a slave ship. Your city has fallen. Your family is most likely dead. You don't know anyone around you, and some of them aren't even human. Giving up would be so easy to do, but not for Arowyn Mason. Not after being raised in a military family with seven brothers. Every great story should begin with a plan. Aro's was to escape and to survive.

Escape comes, but at a price. As they reach the shore, Aro and the other survivors learn that freedom doesn't mean safety. The slavers want their property back and will do anything to get it. The party uses every ounce of their brute strength, a hearty helping of cunning, and even ancient magics to keep themselves alive. Sickness, danger, and even love surprise them at every turn. Dealing with danger becomes their way of life, but none of them ever considered that nothing can be quite as dangerous as a prophecy. Running turns into another race altogether as her world falls to pieces again and again.

Three plantations.
Two wishes.
One ancient curse.

All her life, Barrie Watson has been a virtual prisoner in the house where she lives with her shut-in mother. When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunt’s South Carolina plantation instead--a prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.

Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family's twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isn’t what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead.

I had been waiting for this certain story to unfold since its cover reveal. Knowing already Martina Boone from her site "Adventures in YA Publishing" I had the feeling that "Compulsion" would be an extraodinary read.

And it was. Starting from Barie, a girl with the power to find lost items, and heading towards her aunt's home in order to live after her mother's death, we get to know the history of three families. Put in the mysterious man who appears in flames at night, the love crush Barie develops and well hidden secrets, the book becomes a masterpiece which combines perfectly elements of supernatural, goth, mystery and romance.

Not to mention that my heart broke with Mark, Barie's godfather. Knowing how that feels from personal experience my feelings towards the heroine were mutual.
I know that October is going to be the most busy season since many knowing titles will also be released but Martina's "Compulsion" has already earned a seat at the top!

Summary from GoodReads

Gabe Rockwell’s prom night is cut short when he gets a frantic call from his older brother Jeremy, the Stanford University dropout turned CEO of this year’s hottest tech startup. He’s talking about things Gabe doesn’t understand—venture capitalists, prototypes, million dollar IPOs; he’s stumbled on something big and he needs people he can trust. He needs Gabe.

Nicknamed “the bubble”, Jeremy’s invention isolates users from reality and lets them directly experience quantum effects. Inside the bubble, humans can even manipulate individual atoms. For the computer industry, it’s a dream come true. Except the bubble may have side effects.
After being inside the bubble for only a few minutes, Gabe feels a strange desire to go inside again. He has nightmares and wakes up vomiting in the middle of the night with no idea who he is. Even more troubling, the bubble seems to eat through every kind of radiation shielding known to man…whether it’s plugged in or not.

Now, ever since that first time in the bubble, Gabe has been harboring a terrifying secret—a power, whose addictive pull he finds harder and harder to resist with each passing day: he’s developed the ability to move objects with his mind.

REVIEW

*Recieved an e-copy in exchange for an honest review*

Although sci-fi, and I mean the hard-core ones, weren't always on my to-read list, I was surprised by the title of this one and the summary. Gabe's brother invents the 'bubble' a machine which can erase you from the universe for a minute, then bring you back again. Despite the great expectations of this invention Gabe's brother disappears, leaving Gabe behind with a singe message.

So Gabe begins entering the machine but after some time the concequences affect him too...

There was a great deal of physics laws in this one as also many details and mystery. My only opposition was the fact that Gabe rushed and entered the machine without, in my opinion, thinking it first. I mean you see the machine, do you go inside?

Other than that I really liked the book and I hope the author to continue writing more of this genre. :)

In a world full of magic, a strange yet dangerous problem, Wil and the few royal children who survived the destruction of their homeland, plan a rebellion. In the few chapters, we get to see lush descriptions of the world and the situation as also be introduced into many characters, who might be important or even deadly to Wil.

I can't wait for the full book to be published but so far Jodi has created yet another amazing world of beauty and danger.

Review: "Alias Hook" by Lisa Jensen

Alias HookAlias Hook by Lisa Jensen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

"Every child knows how the story ends. The wicked pirate captain is flung overboard, caught in the jaws of the monster crocodile who drags him down to a watery grave. But it was not yet my time to die. It's my fate to be trapped here forever, in a nightmare of childhood fancy, with that infernal, eternal boy."

Meet Captain James Benjamin Hook, a witty, educated Restoration-era privateer cursed to play villain to a pack of malicious little boys in a pointless war that never ends. But everything changes when Stella Parrish, a forbidden grown woman, dreams her way to the Neverland in defiance of Pan’s rules. From the glamour of the Fairy Revels, to the secret ceremonies of the First Tribes, to the mysterious underwater temple beneath the Mermaid Lagoon, the magical forces of the Neverland open up for Stella as they never have for Hook. And in the pirate captain himself, she begins to see someone far more complex than the storybook villain.

With Stella’s knowledge of folk and fairy tales, she might be Hook’s last chance for redemption and release if they can break his curse before Pan and his warrior boys hunt her down and drag Hook back to their neverending game. Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen is a beautifully and romantically written adult fairy tale.

 REVIEW

He is tortured.
He carves love.
He is Hook.

If I had to conclude my review in three sentences that would be them. This book was mindblowing in every sense from changing rapidly my childhood point of view for the story of "Peter Pan" to the character of "Hook" in general.

We all knew that Hook, mostly from the Disney movie, the adaption of the movie "Hook" and "Peter Pan", was the evil guy who mostly gets eaten, beaten and humiliated. In the book he is a tortured character with a painful past. From a father with great expectations for him to the prisons of the French James Hookbridge becomes a man of hate who sails later at the Carribean as a pirate.

If he met Jack Sparrow in the way, I have no idea ;)

But a spell and his behavior thrust him into Neverland, where he become a toy to Peter's mischief. For the first time, Peter was viewed as a villain, victim of his innocence, since there were no grown-ups to teach him, who likes to destroy Hook in every level. Stella was an amazing character. Smart, beautiful through Hook's eyes and witty, she had a different perception of Neverland and the way she loved Hook was the sweetest part of the book.
I would love to obtain this book on paperback if the chance will ever be given to me and even more after all the movies and stories we've seen and heard, I think that this one in particular would look great at the big screen. :)

Zombies people! And not the "Warm Bodies" kind! These are breathing, eating and drinking lots and lots of Water!

Grayson can't wait for the day to meet his Save, the person who will help him turn back into human. But sweet Cori is nothing like that. Shy but strong, kind and gentle she tries to help Grayson and he finds himself torn between his duty and love for her!

Don't let the cover scare you! This is a strong story with both strong main and secondary characters like Aiken and Peg, with mystery and intense feelings. The story for me could easily rival "Warm Bodies" since it gives depth on the zombie-virus, not making them mindless flesh eating monsters. They feel, love and suffer.

The author manages to create a strong setting with the great potential to become even better! :)

What do you think of zombie stories?

Review: "Goddess Test" by Aimee Carter

The Goddess Test (Goddess Test, #1)The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I had this book on my e-book self for a while relucent of reading it. I did then and I found myself quite... intrugued.

When she reached Eden to have her mother's last wish completed, Kate finds more than she was waited for. A mansion, a mysterious boy and the whole Olympian Gods. With a murderer on the loose and her raging feelings for Henry, Kate will have to be brave as also open enough to love.

I liked the development, I didn't expect the last chapters to become like that as also the way the feelings were shown. Henry was truly a pained character and I wished for him the happy ending. Usually we see male characters who are strong and reliable and Henry wasn't like that. Instead Kate was the one to warm him up and teach him love and hope.

For that quick read I am hoping to find out more about them on the second book! :)

ALLEGIANT, an Alternatate Ending

I really cried on the ending of "Allegiant". And who didn't? Lucky for you, I found this post from a fellow co-blogger. Hop along and read this ending, which is much better than the book!

Review: "Elusion" by Claudia Gabel

Elusion (Elusion, #1)Elusion by Claudia Gabel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The concept of having a dreamscape of virtual reality was really appealing to me when I first saw this book. While I waited to see many things, I was a little disappointed.

Ree and Patrick know about Elusion the app which can tranfer you into the "Escapes" virtual places where you can relax. But when probles start to arise friends are tested and mystery prevails.
The plot felt a little too rushed for me and the love triangle was annoying. While I liked the mystery and didn't expect the ending, I really hope to see more of Josh on the second book "Etherworld".

On the other hand, there's a detailed description of the destroyed planet, where the people need oxygen masks to breathe and acid rain makes your eyes burn. At least there are some messages coming from the book. ;)

Review: Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception by Maggie Stiefvater

Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception (Books of Faerie, #1)Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I think that Maggie was able to present Faeries as they really are known. No glitter or sweet talk, but bloodthirsty, with mischief and secrets. They are the actual presentation of the Fae Folk!

What I mean?

Dee has a talent in music, a harpist! But when Luke starts following hier and clovers appear everywhere she goes, Dee and her family are thurst into the world of a murderous queen and a prisoned soul. For its length "Lament" covers the plot nicely, nut there was not such depth on the romance. While on "Shiver" Trilogy you get teary and heart broken all over, on this book Maggie still hangs on her experimental yet unique writing. :)

Dee is strong while Luke in some parts become too much of a martyr with Dee helping him to survive. I hope the second book will have more of Dee-Luke scenes.

Don't miss the on-going giveaways on "Opposition" by Jennifer Armentrout and "The Lovely and the Lost" by Page Morgan!

So what do toy think? What do you like from Maggie's books?
