Cover Reveal: "RIVETED" (Saints of Denver #3) by Jay Crownover

I am excited to let you know that today the cover for the third book of the "Saints of Denver" series by Jay Crownover is revealed! A new story and a new couple are added in this amazing spin-off series based on the "Marked Men" series by Jay Crownover.

Here's the cover!

 Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes the next installment in the Saints of Denver series.

Everyone else in Dixie Carmichael’s life has made falling in love look easy, and now she is ready for her own chance at some of that happily ever after. Which means she’s done pining for the moody, silent former soldier who works with her at the bar that’s become her home away from home. Nope. No more chasing the hot as heck thundercloud of a man and no more waiting for Mr. Right to find her; she’s going hunting for him...even if she knows her heart is stuck on its stupid infatuation with Dash Churchill.

Denver has always been just a pit stop for Church on his way back to rural Mississippi. It was supposed to be simple, uneventful, but nothing could have prepared him for the bubbly, bouncy redhead with doe eyes and endless curves. Now he knows it’s time to get out of Denver, fast. For a man used to living in the shadows, the idea of spending his days in the sun is nothing short of terrifying.

When Dixie and Church find themselves caught up in a homecoming overshadowed with lies and danger, Dixie realizes that while falling in love is easy, loving takes a whole lot more work…especially when Mr. Right thinks he’s all wrong for you.

Review: "A Torch Against the Night" (An Ember in the Ashes, #2) by Sabaa Tahir

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summery from Goodreads

Elias and Laia are running for their lives.

After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf - the Empire's most secure and dangerous prison - to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars' survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene - Elias's former friend and the Empire's newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus's will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own - one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape... and kill them both.

REVIEW

The anticipating sequel of "An Ember in the Ashes" was everything I loved in a well written sequel. Action, adventure, lots of traveling and romance. No Second Book Syndrome (SBS) here and since we'll have 2 more books in the series, I'm preparing for some major changes in both sides of good and evil.

A Torch Against the Night takes place right where we were left in the end of the first book. Laia and Elias are running for their lives as the Commandant is pursuing them. In a cruel, twisting way Elias's life is put in the worst and most agonizing danger I could ever imagine and Laia will have to find a way to save her brother too.

At the same time Helene, the new Blood Shrike, will be forced to hunt them down due to the Emperor's orders but dark forces are gathering and the plot thickens as a sub-plot makes its appearnce.

In this book, I came to admire Elias. Usually in YA we need strong heroines who make a place for themselves and prove their power over and over again. But sometimes there are also the male protagonists who deserve a medal for their own accomplishments. Elias knows what is happeming to him and despite everything he still wants to help Laia...and love her from afar. Was I surprised by the turn of some events? Very much. Did I want some things not to become so complicated? Yes, but also that's the beauty of Sabaa Tahir's writing.

Laia and Helene also have to deal with their own choices. And I think Helene had the hardest ones to make. What happens towards the ending of the book couldn't make me hate the Commandant more. I didn't expect the events to turn that way and Helene changed quite in the end of the book. Laia is strong, yet afraid which is really realistic. You can't be brave all the time and hope to defeat every single enemy in your way. Being afraid is what makes you more human. With more secondary characters making their appearance, the story was filled with lush descriptions and well hidden secrets.

I liked the second book more more than the first. All the characters experience change as they grow slowly and decide to make a stand for every evil thing that will come in their way. Very recommended and surely I'll read the sequel! ;)

And don't miss the first book of the series!

Blog Tour ARC Review: "Broken God" by Nazarea Andrews

Broken God by Nazarea Andrews

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GodReads

Power is a strange and broken thing.

He was the sun god, the god of healing and song.
And prophecy.
Apollo has lived alone for centuries, content to spin out the years wandering a new and strange world, lost in the past and endless versions of the future. He has cut all ties with the remains of Olympus and his power, and hidden himself in humanity.
His twin thinks he’s depressed, spending his time in coffee shops, hospital waiting rooms, and concert halls…and nothing matters. Not really.
Until her.
Iris. With her teasing mouth and soulful music and eyes that remind him of the past.
He can’t resist her smile.
A girl as wild as he was, once, with a poet’s tongue and the body of a siren, who for one night makes him forget all the years and everything he gave up.
And he can’t stop fate.
Gods knows he’s tried.
He can’t help taking her.
Even if he knows better.
When Iris wakes up screaming, caught up in visions of the future, Apollo realizes that he didn’t leave his power quite as far behind as he thought.
He’s the god of prophecy and he’s been running from it, for centuries.
Iris is everything he has to avoid.
Now he has a furious Oracle on his hands, his sister trying to fix him, and someone is killing the gods.
It’s not just his tenuous sanity that hangs in the balance this time.
It’s all of Olympus.
Godhood really wasn’t supposed to be this hard.

REVIEW

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Broken God introduces us into the Greek mythology, or rather at the end of it. What happens to the Gods when their era has ended? Nazarea Andrews gives the answer and she follows with the story of Apollo the god of sun, poetry, song and plagues. We all know him, have seen him in other similar books and he is as famous as Hades, regarding his background in mythology.

But in this story, Apollo is also...mad. Since he is also the god of prophecy, he can give his gift into an Oracle and so regain his sanity.

In our time his story unfolds with flashbacks of the ancient times as Apollo strives to remain sane as also to keep himself away from Iris, the beautiful girl with the guitar.

There is quite the mystery here and the intrigue, which I liked since this story was quite different from what I usually read, regarding the mythology in NA. While the story was good I struggled with the errors in grammar and syntax, which should easily be corrected after a good edit.

In the end, the book was satisfying and I expected nothing less from Nazarea Andrews! ;)

THE POST PROMPT:

What's Your Book Betrayal Story? (Someone borrowed a book and destroyed it? Waited for a book for forever and it was terrible?)

MY ANSWER:

Well, it's actually pretty simple.

I like to loan books to my friends, I even enjoy it, because after that we can talk about the book and swoon over the characters and the potential sequels. True story: 2 weeks ago, I gave my ACOTAR and Throne of Glass books to a friend of mine and she came back demanding the sequels and dancing around wanting her own Rhys and Dorian.

But, when I have one of my books returned in a bad shape, then i kind of become like this:

Once, when I found coffee stains in the pages of the ONLY ONE copy of "The Winner's Kiss" I own, I actually asked her to buy me a new copy. And I am not sorry for that.

As for bookish betrayals, I'd mention two books:

1) How the Twilight series ended. Meyer shouldn't have done that to Jacob. I'm not against the baby
which kind of looked like it had jumped out of a horror movie in the film, but PLEASE, he deserved better!

2) The neding of the book "Honesty" by Seth King. The story in its core it's heart-gut-wreching but ohh so sweet. The ending had me crying so hard after THAT plot-twist and worse I was reading the book in the bus. The old lady next to me thought I had broken up with my boyfriend (I don't even have one!)

How about you?

Blood of the Prophet
Kat Ross
(The Fourth Element #2)
Publication date: September 12th 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
Visionary. Alchemist. Savior. Saint.
The Prophet Zarathustra has been called many things. Now he spends his time drawing pictures of weird-looking goats. That’s what happens when you’ve been stuck in a prison cell for two hundred years. But the man who might be mad, and is definitely supposed to be dead, has suddenly become very valuable again…
It’s only been a few weeks since Nazafareen escaped the King’s dungeons with her daēva, Darius. She hoped never to set foot in the empire again, but the search for the Prophet has led them to the ancient city of Karnopolis. They have to find him before Alexander of Macydon burns Persepolae, and Darius’s mother with it. But they’re not the only ones looking.
The necromancer Balthazar has his own plans for the Prophet, and so does the sinister spymaster of the Numerators. As Nazafareen is drawn in to a dangerous game of cat and mouse, her newfound powers take a decidedly dark turn. Only the Prophet understands the secret of her gift, but the price of that knowledge may turn out to be more than Nazafareen is willing to pay…

REVIEW

I received an ecopy in exchange for an honest review.
of this series! The setting, the world-building and the mythology behind the story had me hooked from the first book and I am pleased to say that the sequel doesn't disappoint!

As Nazafareen and Darius race against time to save the Prophet, dark forces gather in the upcoming battle between empires but also good against evil. The surprises don't stop here and while I was expecting more to the plot, Kat Ross gave more importance to the details and the character development. We have more POVs in the sequel and each turn of the events marks the movement of the other players in this game of cat and mouse.

The romance was sweet and I loved the moments between Nazafareen and Darius who despite their wounds and scars still complete each other in a unique way!

The ending was again a cliffhanger for me and I will make sure to read the third book of this series, because Kat Ross knows when to make you addicted into a very well written story!

Happily-ever-after.
That’s what happens when you get married.
Right?
Turns out sparkly rings, cake and a fantastic wedding do not automatically grant you that, not even when it’s all you truly want.
I’m even starting to doubt the bottomless, unconditional love I share with the man I married will be enough.
I can’t have happily ever after, know why?
Because I can’t give Romeo what he truly wants. I’ve tried. So hard. I won’t be happy unless he is and something is missing. Someone.
Paparazzi are in my face. The flashing cameras and prying eyes are everywhere. My secret is getting harder to hide, and I know the second the scoop is dished the grip I have on the fraying rope of that happily ever after will snap right in my face.
In our face.
I can’t let that happen. No matter what.
Because with or without a happy ending, Romeo comes Before Anyone Else.

REVIEW

So...HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER YEAR?

*clears throat*

This will be a hard review to write, the third in a row after "Unknown" and "Nevernight", and in this one I actually can't say anything of the plot because it will spoil everything!

If you have read the novella "Day Zero", which was published in the summer, then you'll get the idea of how some characters actually feel and act in this book. Following the events of "Dead of the Winter" Evie will have to gather allies in order to fight the Emperor. This is the only tibit I'll give you of the plot.

What I really liked from this book was the introduction of the new Arcana as also the mention of the Minor Arcana. I didn't know that the other cards will also play a part in this destroyed world, not to mention that the GODS who actually created this game, did it because they were bored (apparently).
The whole book felt actually a deja vu to me, like I was watching 2012 unravel before me as Evie fights her way and at some point comes into some hurtful desicions.

Two things are sure in this book: your heart will be torn into million pieces and there is also a cliffhanger! So while I recommend this book, read at your own choice. ;)

The only problem is, the man running the hotel drives her crazy: Logan Shephard. What does matter is that he’s a grump. Kind of an asshole, too. And gets under Ronnie’s skin like no one else. But the more time Ronnie spends on the island of Kauai, falling in love with the lush land and its carefree lifestyle, the closer she gets to Logan.
And the closer she gets to Logan, the more she realizes she may have pegged him all wrong. Maybe it’s the hot, steamy jungles or the invigorating ocean air, but soon their relationship becomes utterly intoxicating. There’s just one major catch. The two of them together would incite a scandal neither Ronnie, nor her family, would ever recover from. Forbidden, Illicit, off-limits – sometimes the heat is worth surrendering to, even if you get burned.
