We are thrilled to bring you the cover for the next standalone from New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Kylie Scott.

IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME will release on AUGUST 7th!

"Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you'll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!" - Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author

Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was. Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town. Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings. Sometimes first loves are the truest.

Excerpt:

I’ve gotten, over the months, very good at keeping everything in their box.
Work is work and friends are friends and fucking strangers in the bar is mostly harmless and my red phone stays home, during the first two and occasionally, when my nerves are tight or my temper is high—I’ll take the phone in public.
No one, not even Emilie or Taite know about my little part-time gig, and while I don’t think they’d care, exactly, I also didn’t want to tell them.
It was mine, a secret, and not necessarily something I was proud of—I wasn’t ashamed either, but I wanted it to be mine.
So when I step into the RCPD headquarters, I’m not RedQueen. I’m just Vivian Fitzpatrick, the perfectly put together coolly detached girl that River City expects.
“Viv,” the Chief shouts and I huff, but detour into his office, giving him the coy smile that still makes him flush.
I’ve been giving him the same smile since I was in high school and fooling around with his daughter, and he still flushes. It’s adorable, really.
“Miguel is working with our new officer, so I’m pulling Gomez off the front desk to ride with Taite.”
I smirk. “What did Gomez do to piss you off?”
He laughs.
“So you’re taking Chris?” I ask and he nods, giving me apologetic eyes.
“Sorry. Lisa will be in there with you.”
“No worries, Chief. Thanks for the heads up,” I say, grinning and he nods as I duck back out.
I get myself settled in, slipping my headset on and Emilie ducks into a grin at me.
“Have you met him yet?”
“The new guy?” I ask and she nods. “Not yet. You know people don’t like visiting my little hole in the wall.”
True enough. Taite and Emilie only come back here because they’re unreasonably attached to me.
“He’s yummy,” Emilie smirks, all dirty promise.
I arch an eyebrow. “Might I remind you that both Miguel and Cal would be unhappy to see your eye wandering.”
She flushes and I smile, pleased with myself.
“I’m looking for you, idiot,” she snaps, halfhearted.
“I don’t fuck where I work, darling. You and Taite have a lock on that particular market.”
She rolls her eyes and I shoo her away as my radio crackles to life.

ARC Review: " Damsel" by Elana K. Arnold

Damsel by Elana K. Arnold
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from Goodreads

The rite has existed for as long as anyone can remember: when the prince-who-will-be-king comes of age, he must venture out into the gray lands, slay a fierce dragon, and rescue a damsel to be his bride. This is the way things have always been.

When Ama wakes in the arms of Prince Emory, however, she knows none of this. She has no memory of what came before she was captured by the dragon, or what horrors she has faced in its lair. She knows only this handsome prince, the story he tells of her rescue, and her destiny to sit on the throne beside him. Ama comes with Emory back to the kingdom of Harding, hailed as the new princess, welcomed to the court.

However, as soon as her first night falls, she begins to realize that not all is as it seems, that there is more to the legends of the dragons and the damsels than anyone knows–and that the greatest threats to her life may not be behind her, but here, in front of her.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

I knew that this book was going to be different ever since I saw the cover. Fire, glass and birds, even a heart. These beautiful elements of the cover are also clues for the story, so pay attention.

"Damsel" is about a Prince who must save the damsel who is locked away by a big bad dragon. Prince Emory takes this trip not having any knowledge beforehand of what to expect, as all his predecessors did before him. After a brutal fight, he returns home with his Damsel who has no recollection of who she is and Emory names her Ama.

The first chapters of the book are told through Emory's POV. And anyone who also has an ARC and has read it will agree that it is obvious from the start that we have to deal with a selfish, horrible human being, who thinks highly and mighty of himself. Repeatedly I read the phrase: "as it's his right" and also he would boast about his "horn". UGH

And then the story moves to Ama who is told that she'll be a queen, that it's her duty to bear Emory a son who will take the mantle. And that it's a woman's duty to keep her mouth shut and listen to her man. From a point on I felt like I was reading a very bad written bodice ripper. The language also felt like that.

But the most characteristic part is the absence of action. Fantasies are supposed to have lots of action, yet in this book, I didn't care. Because I struggle with Ama, feeling her stifling life and the role she was supposed to fit into, as everyone around her tried to mold her into something else. From a point on, especially because of Emory's mother, the Queen, I realized what the truth was and honestly the ending was very satisfying. Yes, you may frown at me when you come back and read the review again BUT, I always become satisfied when the ending makes you breathe finally after a truly the protagonist gets what she truly needs.

And honestly? Elana's writing was very realistic. I want more fantasies like this one.

ARC Review: "Moonlight Seduction" (de Vincent #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Moonlight Seduction by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from Goodreads

The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel...

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up... and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman... one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Gabe's story was quite intriguing even from the first book "Moonlight Sins". And I really wondered what Nic's connection to him would be.
So, while the story was slow burning and had some funny moments, I didn't expect it to escalate in that scale towards the end. The house was creepy once more, Dev was a cold-hearted man (or he is the best actor I've ever seen) and Nic knew how to keep her cool with Sabrina the b*ch.

And Gabe despite being a hypocritical jerk at the beginning of the book, opened and warmed up to me as a character making me liking him towards the end. But to be honest, I knew from Jennifer's mentions on Facebook about Rosie and Dev, so even that ONE scene I got with those two together made me even more excited for the final book of the series.

Because seriously I imagine Rosie storming into the house Ghostbusters style, with Dev cringing every time she bumps into precious china, vases, and paintings.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Jack, I’ll clean up here. Why don’t you head out early for the night? Go take your girlfriend out somewhere nice. It’s a Friday night.” Peter’s voice boomed around the studio as he walked out of the supply closet, his scabbard buckled back into place. He walked past Viv, his stare focused on his office door where Jack emerged. He hadn’t seen her. “You sure?” Jack’s voice echoed back. “Yeah, I’ll meet you on set Monday. And bring your cup. Erin’s a sadistic little brat. She’d take a hard poke at your balls and call it an accident.” Viv bit her cheek, trying not to laugh. The little girl would do something exactly like that. And with her big, blue eyes, everyone would believe it really was just an accident. Jack laughed. “All right, man. See you Monday.
Have a good weekend,” he said as he walked out of the studio, the door closing behind him. Peter watched Jack shut the door before he slipped a longsword from a scabbard mounted along the wall, the silver metal gleaming opal in the light. This was no pirate swashbuckler sword. This was one of hard medieval lines, belonging to a knight or a king. The tip of the sword rose above Peter’s head, the hilt trapped between his strong hands. He wielded it with such grace and ease. Silent. Powerful. Each swish and thrust into the open air part of a deadly dance. His movements flowed, like water ran through his veins. These movements were different from his sword fight with Jack.
These were slow, almost delicate. The blade sliced in perfect precision, as if Peter battled an invisible ghost. Viv’s heart thudded in her chest, the only sound she heard besides the whooshing of Peter’s weapon. She stepped forward, mesmerized by the sword’s dance. “I was wondering when you’d come out of hiding.” Peter’s voice broke the spell. His sword continued to split the air around him, his gaze focused on the blade rather than her. Viv jerked back to reality. In her trance, she’d stepped onto the mat, a dozen feet away from Peter. Her blush pricked at the back of her neck, disappearing somewhere below her ponytail.
“Sorry, I was just leaving.”
“No, you weren’t. Pick up the sword over there.” Peter pointed somewhere across the room, his eyes still focused on his invisible opponent. Viv walked around the mat and saw another sword, similar in fashion but with different details. Long. Thin. Her hand wrapped around the hilt and lifted it. Heavy. She grasped the hilt with both hands and struggled to raise the metal sword upright. How did he wield this like it was as light a feather? “Now come out onto the mat.” He lowered his blade and turned to watch her, their gazes locking as Viv moved. Her arm muscles cried out in protest as the weight of the sword wobbled from one hand to the other. “You make it look easy.” She let the weight of the sword tug her arm down, the tip thumping against the foam mat as it hung useless in her hand. “Hold on.” Peter held out his hand to take her sword. “I have a better idea.” Viv offered the sword to him, the tip still on the ground. He picked the sword up from her grip and held both longswords in one hand, raising them and resting the dulled edges on his shoulders before smirking and walking back to the storage room.
“Showoff,” she said, her voice bouncing around her. Peter’s laugh echoed like deep chamber music. “I’ll be right back.”
He disappeared into the tiny room. A minute later, he returned with two long fencing rapiers. “These should be easier.” He tossed one to her. She caught the edge of the handle, but it bounced off her hand and clattered onto the mat beside her. She blushed again as she lifted the sword by the hilt. Thin. Flexible. And much more lightweight. She lifted it with ease, raising it in front of her. Peter circled around her, his own sword in hand. Her body honed in on his every movement. Every shift of his feet. Every tilt of the sword. Every flicker of his eyes. His gaze burned into her, stripping her bare as she stood rooted to the floor. She couldn’t move if she wanted to. His piercing stare locked her in place. Her heart thumped hard in her chest and she wondered if he could hear it too. Butterflies yawned and woke in her belly, tickling her from the inside.
“You’re ready for me,” he smirked, stopping in front of her before taking two steps back. He raised his sword, the thin blade blazing orange in the setting sunlight. Viv raised the blade to match his. She lunged. He struck her blade with his, moving it out of the way with no effort. His smile twitched into a wicked smirk. He lunged for her. Viv flung her sword upward, the blades catching on one another. The light caught in the middle of the swords, a large metal X locking over them. Peter stepped closer, pressing more of his strength into the blade. Viv’s grip slipped a bit, but she pushed her arms forward to keep the blades pressed together.
“Clever girl,” Peter growled before his sword sliced through the air and cut his words. He stepped back, eyeing her. Waiting for her next move. Viv slid to the side, but Peter’s sword blocked her blow with ease, his smile teasing her. She knew this was child’s play for him. She wanted to make it a bit more difficult. “Don’t go so easy on me,” she panted. Her lungs burned from the exertion and her muscles hummed like a bow playing over violin strings.
“Darling, I’m only just getting started on you.”

The Wild Heir AMAZON (1)

The Wild Heir by Karina Halle
Publication Date: May 17th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance

At first glance I probably seem like any good-looking guy in their late twenties. I have an obscene amount of confidence, a tattooed body sculpted by the Nordic gods, and I love the ladies as much as they love me. If I’m not BASE jumping or car racing, I’m chasing other devious thrills with the woman of the week. And that’s fine if you’re the average single guy. But I'm not the average single guy. I’m Crown Prince Magnus of Norway and my latest scandal just landed my entire royal family in hot water. Now the only way the monarchy can save face is for me to smarten up – publicly. If I don’t, I’ll no longer be heir apparent to the throne. So it’s either I abdicate my future role as King or… I get married. To a blue-blooded stranger.
Enter Princess Isabella of the tiny country of Liechtenstein. Quiet, intelligent, and uniquely beautiful, Ella doesn’t like this arrangement any more than I do and she’s not afraid to show it. She says I’m a womanizer, that I don’t take anything seriously, that my ego should be taken down a few pegs, and I think she aims to make me miserable for the rest of my life. But even as our arranged marriage becomes a war of wit and words, I’m determined to break through Ella’s prim and proper façade to find the wild, sexual and risk-taking woman underneath. I want to uncover the Queen inside her. The only question is – will she let me?

The Wild Heir is a standalone full-length royal romance.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had loved Magnus ever since the Swedish Prince! I was very excited to get the chance to read his own story!
At first glance, you see a man who only loves a good time, yet has made royally big mistakes. So when the King and Queen force him to marry a princess, he is in for big trouble.
Now Ella, on the other hand, was an amazing character. Forced to live away from her country and with issues with her family, she is quite responsible, kind, and keeps Magnus on his toes. I loved their dialogue, banter and everything else.

I also loved the appearance of King Aksel! Seriously, the next book must be about him! And finally you can never get bored with a good book by Karina Halle; she is on my auto-read list for a reason.
