The Good for Nothings by Danielle Banas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

They're only good at being bad.

Cora Saros is just trying her best to join the family business of theft and intergalactic smuggling. Unfortunately, she's a total disaster.

After landing herself in prison following an attempted heist gone very wrong, she strikes a bargain with the prison warden: He'll expunge her record if she brings back a long-lost treasure rumored to grant immortality.

Cora is skeptical, but with no other way out of prison (and back in her family's good graces), she has no choice but to assemble a crew from her collection of misfit cellmates—a disgraced warrior from an alien planet; a cocky pirate who claims to have the largest ship in the galaxy; and a glitch-prone robot with a penchant for baking—and take off after the fabled prize.

But the ragtag group soon discovers that not only is the too-good-to-be-true treasure very real, but they're also not the only crew on the hunt for it. And it's definitely a prize worth killing for.

Whip-smart and utterly charming, this irreverent sci-fi adventure is perfect for fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lunar Chronicles, and Firefly.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very entertaining read! A group of ragtag thieves, a warrior, a human, an elf-like thief, and a bot that likes baking but can't eat join together in a space adventure in search of a lost artifact. I loved the premise and I couldn't stop laughing. It was enjoyable and very cute. The plot was easy to follow with action scenes and a hint of romance too.

But in the end, the story was more about who your actual "family" is rather the one you have been born into. It was a book I enjoyed reading very much.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was entertaining but some very creepy moments. There were many ups and downs in the book and although I enjoyed it very much, it didn't keep me as interested as I wanted to.

Oh the mystery is worth it but at least to me, it wasn't enough. But this is still a good book for those interested.

Brass Carriages and Glass Hearts by Nancy Campbell Allen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

A steampunk retelling of Cinderella.

Emmeline O’Shea is determined to save the world—single-handedly, if necessary. A strong voice for societal reform, she is the natural choice to deliver a key speech at the end of the International Shifter Rights Organization’s week-long Summit in Scotland.

But when a death threat arrives at Emme’s home, she is immediately placed into protective custody, watched over by none other than her personal nemesis, Detective-Inspector Oliver Reed. The two have crossed paths many times, with disastrous results, but now they will have to work together in order to reach the Summit before midnight of the last day in order to ensure legislation is passed to protect the Shifter community.

As unseen enemies close in around Emme and Oliver, they struggle to reach Edinburgh by any means necessary, only to find Emme’s vindictive stepsister, Oliver’s vampire brother, and a dangerous political minefield awaiting them in Scotland.

Even more difficult is their own refusal to admit that the fiery animosity that once burned between them might be turning into the heat of romantic passion. Could a straitlaced policeman determined to uphold the law and an outspoken activist willing to break the rules ever find true love? Or will all their dreams shatter like glass when the clock strikes midnight?

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

While I read this book without having read the previous ones I loved the story! Steampunk is a hit or miss with me but combined with the fairytale retelling it was an enjoyable book! While the action felt short and some parts I couldn't understand (mostly due to me not having read the previous books) this was a good read!

I seriously plan to read the other books of the series too!

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Amidst the quarantine, I found a wonderful story that had me gripped with its beauty and amazing descriptions. I love Karina Halle and her books. Her characters are real, with their own scars, issues, and secrets, yet they are all lovable and they deserve their HEAs.

Daisy and Tai are no different. Among a deserted island, where they have shipwrecked along with Daisy's sister, her husband and with a wild goat, Daisy and Tai will face their own insecurities...among hot *wink, wink* beaches and an island that looks like a ...dong :P

I loved this book. It was a light read with the swoons I miss in a good contemporary.

REVIEW

The final book of The Honors series had everything I loved. Action, mystery and a race in time before the last battle and also so much emotion I could feel my heart beating and mourning for the characters. I loved Zara, Nadim and all the assortment of characters that completed this unique, beautiful and diverse story! The romance hooked me from the start as Nadim was pure love and cuteness! I never felt so much love for a huge, whale-like alien before!

Not to mention that the story never left you quiet as all the groups had to race against this Godkiller who could easily eat the universe like ice cream. Apart from the action, there were many mysteries behind the origins of these gods and the alien races who fought them. I loved how both authors created a vast cosmic group of cultures and aliens who were all unique in their own way!

The ending was amazing and terrific and left me with a deep sense of loss as these beautiful characters are now out there in deep space living amazing adventures! Never my quarantine has felt so...lonley.

Finally NADIM DESERVES ALL THE LOVE HE HAS AND DON'T YOU DARE HARM MY PRECIOUS ALIEN!

REVIEW

Meet Alessandra (who suspiciously has the same name as me this poor Hufflepuff). She is a beauty, has an amazing fashion style...and she is a murderer. And she has a plan! She will seduce the Shadow King, marry him and then kill him in order to become the Queen!

Simple plan, right? Right.

As Alessandra navigates through court politics and mysteries behind the Shadow King's past, she will discover that even murderous intents can not be stronger than growing attraction.

I enjoyed this book! It was fast-paced, with action and glitter and fashion and Alessandra was a character that while I could not relate to, I found her actions partly agreeable since the society in this book is quite...well sexist. I enjoyed the banter, the power of the Shadow King and while I didn't expect the ending I really wished that there could be more books in this series! I did notice a Greek mention here and there and I'd love to have this world explored more.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There is always something to adore in Amy Harmon's writing. Be it the deep spirituality of her stories and her characters or the romance that is both sweet and heartbreaking, there is nothing that would ever make me find something lacking in Amy's books. "Where the Lost Wander" takes place in one pivotal period for America, be it this great migration towards the West...and all the tragedy that followed for all sides. Be it for the Native Americans or the settlers this was a period that few want to admit it was not as rosy as Hollywood shows or as much unsettling to both sides.

The story focuses on a trail of wagons as they make their way to West and California with Naomi and her family being one of them. They are all led by John Lowry a half Pawnee, half-white man who feels that he belongs nowhere. As the trail becomes harder with all its tragedies and hardships, both Naomi and John will discover love in each other and a way to navigate both the harsh environment and the dangers that lie ahead.

Trigger warning: there is a raping scene in the book, but it's not graphic. If this is unsettling to you please be cautioned.

The story is a testament to America's attempt to move across the continent and while there were amazing descriptions about nature and the rest of the West, I also glimpsed a part into the Native American way which personally I admire and want to learn more in a scientific way. You get to feel what it was for these tribes with long and ancient traditions to lose their homes and be treated as...well savages by the "white tribe". Moreover, John's place in the book was also a part of true stories for many people of his time who actually didn't belong anywhere.

I loved Amy Harmon's new book and poignant with a touch of autobiography I enjoyed every part of it.

Summary from GoodReads

Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.

A Maiden…

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

A Duty…

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.

A Kingdom…

Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

REVIEW

I had the honor of receiving an advanced reader copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

There's no hard fan of Jennifer Armentrout who didn't scream when this surprise release was finally announced! To be honest, I had read this book back in January and boy, was I so enthusiastic about it...but I couldn't talk about it!

Jennifer makes a dive to Adult Paranormal in this new baby where gods are alive, secrets and blood threaten all and a young woman may be the key to solve everything...or destroy it all.

I enjoyed reading about Poppy. She is a young woman tasked with the role of "Maiden" a pure woman who will bring salvation and save her kingdom from the so-called craven, zombie-like creatures and their masters the Descenders. Trained to fight, but also abused, she tries to navigate the politics of the court, her peculiar position and also her growing feelings for Hawke, her new guard.

Now I may not be able to tell more since I'll thread to spoiler-land but I was very excited to read something from Jennifer that was both in the Adult spectre and brought back a paranormal creature that I didn't expect Jennifer to write about! So this was a great surprise!

As for Hawke? Well, some of my friends already think that he has dethroned other amazing male characters of Jennifer's like Daemon, Aiden, Seth and Roth, but for me, he might need some grovelling to do in the next book!

Read this amazing book! You won't be disappointed!
