Bloganniversary Day 1+Giveaway: Immortal City series by Scott Speer
Friday, January 2, 2015
Hello and welcome to the first day of my bloganniversary! Yesterday, I announced that from now on and until the end of January the reviews which will be posted will also be accompanied by giveaways! So stay tuned and get the chance to win any of your favorite books I will feature!
Today I am posting the review of one book, the third of the series, which was also published at the summer of 2014. The Immortal City series by Scott Speer!
Let's begin with the review of the third book:
Battle Angel by Scott Speer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Summary from GoodReads
It's going to take a lot more than fame to save the Immortal City in its darkest hour. . . .
With Maddy torn between two loves, Guardian Jackson and heroic pilot Tom, and Angels and humans on the brink of an epic war, the Immortal City is more vulnerable than ever. And when demons descend upon Angel City with the intent to destroy, the humans don't stand a fighting chance without the Angels on their side.
Will Jacks find the strength and forgiveness to enter the fray and fight the demons as a stronger-than-ever Battle Angel? Or has the damage been so great that the Guardians will set off for the next place, abandoning Angel City in its darkest hour?
It all comes down to love-wrecked half-Angel Maddy and the strength of her bond with Jackson in this game-changing, thrice-as-sultry series finale that blends beautiful themes of redemption and renewal with heart-pounding action scenes and jaw-dropping twists.
REVIEW
On the final battle between Demons and Angels Maddy will have to decide who she wants more and who she will have to leave behind. In the escalating battle between good and evil, mistakes are made, sacrifices will force beloved ones apart and the new order will be born.
Although I loved the previous books, I was way out of my 'reading waters' ith the third one. I didn't expect some scenes to happen and at some point Maddy's actions seemed to be a little planned.
Jackson's actions were odd in contrast with his previous self on the other books but in the end he found his way.
The ending was unjustified in my opinion because, first, I didn't expect the book to end like that, and second I wanted more romance scenes. It was overall a good book but it needed more stretching on the plot and maybe a different ending.

And here are the reviews on the first two books of the series
Immortal City by Scott Speer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Summary from GoodReads
Jackson Godspeed is the hottest young Angel in a city that revolves around idolizing Immortals like him. He grew up in the spotlight, and in less than a week, he'll become the youngest full-fledged Guardian ever. People around the world are lining up to pay for him to keep them safe. His lifelong dream of becoming a hero is finally within his grasp--and he can't afford to let the parties, paparazzi, or red carpets distract him.
But Jackson's high-profile life takes an unexpected turn when he meets seventeen-year-old Maddy. She's smart and down-to-earth, and sees Jackson for who he is and not for his celebrity. They forge an instant--and electric--connection. Their vastly different backgrounds seem like the only obstacle in their path of being together...until something much more dangerous threatens to destroy their chance at love.
Because not everyone worships the Angels: a bitter killer is murdering the Guardians one by one. And it's up to Maddy to save Jackson--he's next in the killer's sights.
Set in a reimagined Los Angeles that sparkles with glamour and celebrity worship, Scott Speer's Immortal City is charged with passion and haunted by themes of power and idolatry.
REVIEW
I've been reading many bad reviews concerning Immortal City since the day i stumbled upon this book. Curious i found an ebook of it. Although i admit that the plot moved fast and the characters seemed not very developed i have a MAJOR pros for you:
ANGELS, LA, RED CARPET! -------> The idea of combining riches and wings is a first and the author made a great work expressing the emotions of the protagonists!!! Even the premonitons of Maddy kept me hooked on the story as also Jacks's wings!
A good, fat 5 of 5 stars from me! Of to the second book!

Natural Born Angel by Scott Speer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Summary from GoodReads
Life turned upside down for Maddy Montgomery when she found out she was half-Angel and was catapulted into the scene of flashbulbs, paparazzi, and the fervent adulation that comes with being in the celebrity Angel world. She's trying to juggle her ordinary life—high school, family, friends—with the intense demands of being in the public eye as heartthrob Angel Jackson Godspeed's girlfriend.
And now Maddy must face the most difficult choice of her life. She's been offered the chance to become a Guardian. This means entering into dangerous and high stakes training, with no guarantee that she can succeed. But more than that, it would mean leaving her mortal life behind—forever—and allying with the Angels at a time when their relationship with humans is heading for war. . . .
REVIEW
A terrible, heart breaking ending on the second book of the series! Maddy tries to live as an Angel, Jackson has to deal with the loss of his wings while new shadows threat to destroy Angel City...and humanity. Scott Speer knows how to keep you up with the story as also to cut in the bost important moments.
Yet, I was a little dissapointed with the triangle, even if for a reason it was justified and well explained.

I've read Angelfall by Susan Ee and absolutely loved it! I've been really looking forward to this series, I've almost bought the first book a couple times.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good series but not at the style of "Angelfall". Thank you for commenting!
DeleteI think the only angel books I've read have been the first 2 books in the Hush, Hush series. But this one seems really awesome!
ReplyDeleteAngel books aren't my favorite, but I have enjoyed a few. What I liked about your review was how honest you were!
