Every race has a finish line.
Where you go after you cross it is what matters most.
And sometimes, that’s the most intriguing.
Here at GearShark, we’ve featured lots of drivers.
All of them are well acquainted with the finish line.
And as race fans, we’re well acquainted with cheering as they cross it.
What we aren’t privy to is riding shotgun, seeing where they drive once the race is over.
Our interviews barely scratch the surface,
offering just a glimpse of the men and women behind the wheel.
The discovery of vanished Motocross sensation Jayson Hamilton,
who has been right under our noses for years, proves secrets abound.
It’s time to dig deep. Look beyond the racetrack at the drivers who continue to pique our interest. In addition to scoring an exclusive, all-access interview with the elusive Jayson Hamilton (his first and only since the death of his fellow racer and partner Matt Lewis),
we’ve caught up with some of our most popular featured men and women in the racing world.
Where are they now?
Who are they now?
What do these hot commodities do when they escape the spotlight?
Rumors of weddings, babies, and new tattoos swirl through the media on a weekly basis.
And though we’re headlining the hashtag #Finishline, we’re far from finished.
In fact, we’re just getting started.
This newest issue of GearShark is jam packed with everything you’ve been dying to know…
and it just might be our biggest page-turner yet.

“What’s wrong?” he demanded the second I opened the door.
“Nothing,” I said and motioned for him to come in.
He pulled off his Oakleys and slid one earpiece beneath the neck of his dark-blue T-shirt so they were out of his hands and stepped into the apartment.
His eyes searched out his brother, wanting to be sure all was well.
“He isn’t here,” I said and shut the door.
Lorhaven turned. “Where is he?”
“Meeting,” I replied.
“Why aren’t you there?” He scrutinized.
“Because I didn’t need to be.” I cleared my throat. “And, I, ah, wanted to talk to you. Alone.”
His eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Why?”
Arrow’s big brother was an asshole. It wasn’t anything new to me, and his constant suspicious demeanor didn’t offend me like it used to. I understood his extreme overprotective nature when it came to Arrow (and Joey). I even respected it.
There was a time when I doubted we would ever get along. Hell, sometimes I still doubted it. But ever since the day I raced across the track to pull Arrow out of a multicar pile-up, things were different between me and Lorhaven.
Friendlier.
He welcomed me to the family that day, and since then, he’d backed up his handshake with actions. Arrow and I hung out with him and Joey regularly, something I knew meant a lot to A. To me, too.
Joey was my first and only real friend since Matt died. The months we’d spent not really speaking had hurt. To have her friendship back along with a new one in Lorhaven gave me the sense of family I’d deprived myself of for so long.
“There’s something I want to ask you,” I said. He made a sound, sort of an agreement, and shrugged out of the jacket to fling it over the back of the couch. “You called me down here because you want to ask me a question?”
“It’s not something I could do over the phone.”
He folded his arms over his chest and regarded me in a way that would probably make a lesser man piss his pants. Lorhaven didn’t intimidate me. He never did, and he never would.
But, uh, yeah… I was anxious right now. “I know how close you are to A.” I began. “He told me you’re more like a dad to him than The Fucker ever was.”
Lorhaven’s arms dropped to his sides. “He told you that?”
I nodded. “Yeah. And honestly, I’m fucking grateful to you for that.”
Shock widened his very dark eyes. I committed the look to memory as I smothered a smile. I’d likely not see that look on his face ever again.
My voice dropped. “I think you were the one thing that stood between Arrow and total shutdown a few years ago.”
“Until you came along,” he replied, gruff.
“Thank you for everything you did for him, for everything you do. I know you already know how much he appreciates you, but now you know I do, too.”
“He’s my family,” he said, like it was all he needed to say.
I half smiled.
“As touching as this is…” Lorhaven studied me. “Why do I get the feeling you want something?”
“Because I do.” I took a deep breath. “I want Arrow.”
He made a sound. “Pretty sure you already got that.”
I shook my head once. “I want to marry him.”
Lorhaven jolted like someone tossed a bucket of ice water over his head. “You wanna what?”
“I’m gonna ask Arrow to marry me, but before I do, I’d like your permission.”

A sexy new standalone romance from #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Lauren Blakely…

Ever notice that sometimes a guy will do something really stupid, like let the love of his life slip through his fingers?

Yeah. I'm that guy. But the instant I run into her again I’ve got one goal and one goal only—a second chance. The plan? Go big or go home.

Fine, at first glance, stripping naked at my ex-girlfriend's place of work might not seem like the brightest way to win her heart again. But trust me on this count—she always liked me best without any clothes on. And sometimes you've got to play to your strengths when you're fighting an uphill battle. As a lawyer, I know how to fight, and I'm prepared to fight hard for her. Because sometimes you need a second chance at first love.

He's the one who got away . . .

The nerve of Tyler Nichols to reappear like that at my job, showing off his rock-hard body that drove me wild far too many nights. That man with his knowing grin and mischievous eyes is nothing but a cocky jerk to saunter back into my life. Except, what if he's not . . .? I've tried like hell to forget him, but maybe I'm cursed to remember the guy I fell madly in love with eight years ago. Lord knows I’m not over him, so what's the harm in giving him a week to prove he's changed in the ways that matter?

After all, how do you resist the hot one . . .?

Blog Tour+Review+Giveaway: "Making Faces" by Amy Harmon

Title: Making Faces
Author: Amy Harmon
Release Date: February 21, 2017
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press

Synopsis: The Spencer Hill Press release will have Bonus Content never before available. Ambrose Young was beautiful. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She’d been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have . . . until he wasn’t beautiful anymore. Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl’s love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior’s love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

REVIEW

I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Amy Harmon knows how to create a story with emotion, beauty and the overwhelming sense of absolution. Fern, Ambrose and Bailey, all are unique characters who know how to steal the show, even with all the historical events (9/11) taking place and changing their lives.

I loved the romance, the touch of "Beauty and the Beast" but the main lesson you do get from this book is that love can heal and forgive. Very touching read which I do recommend.

About the Author:

Amy Harmon is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of ten novels. Her books are now being published in 13 languages around the globe. She knew at an early age that writing was something she wanted to do, and divided her time between writing songs and stories as she grew. Having grown up in the middle of wheat fields without a television, with only her books and her siblings to entertain her, she developed a strong sense of what made a good story.

Adrenaline Rush by Cindy M. Hogan
As I hurtled toward my destination at 500 miles an hour, I pulled out a notebook, placed it on the shiny mahogany table in front of me, and scribbled a quick to-do list. Pick out an outfit. Get folders and notebooks. Switch into fourth period drama. I chewed on the end of my pen. Oh yeah—just one more thing. Get kidnapped.
According to my pre-mission briefing, kidnappings were up in the States by five percent over the last five years. The significance of which didn’t hit me until I found that the statistics for kidnappings had remained static for a good thirty years. The spike caught the attention of the FBI, and they put their best men on it. The problem? Right when they thought they’d discovered the pattern of the kidnappers, it seemed to change.
We hit some turbulence, and the force of it pulled me out of my reverie. I sucked in a deep breath, my hands resting on the soft leather side arms of my big comfortable seat as the Gulfstream jet jumped. I let the rollercoaster feeling wash over me like a wave, forcing myself to enjoy every last tingle. I only had this flight and a few hours tonight to assume my new thrill-seeking alias—the one that would lure the kidnappers and save the day before the pattern changed again. I might as well make the most of it.

Chosen Wolf (Curse of the Moon #2) Excerpt
The full moon inched higher in the night sky, growing bigger and brighter by the moment. One by one, the members of the pack ran behind the Moonhaven mansion to remove their clothes before they tore to shreds as their bodies turned from men to wolves. Howls sounded in the distance.
Toby squeezed my hand, holding my gaze. “Maybe this will be the month you can finally shift again, Victoria.”
Sharp pains ran through my body. My right hip cracked. I bit my tongue, trying not to cry out in pain. My skin felt on fire as fur tried to poke through, but couldn’t.
His face tensed, a pained look in his eyes. “Are you shifting?”
I shook my head. There was nothing normal about this, and it was proving to be more difficult and painful than my other months of un-shifts. Each one grew worse than the last.
Toby scooped me up, carried me inside, and helped me onto my bed. “I can’t keep my wolf inside any longer. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” I fought to keep my voice steady. Tears threatened.
He brushed hair from my face and kissed my forehead. “Ziamara’s upstairs sleeping. She said to wake her if you need anything.”
“I’ll be fine.” I grimaced, the pain nearly choking me.
Toby cried out and the sound of ripping fabric tore through the room. He spun around and dashed out the door. The back of his shirt had ripped, and fur poked through the split material.
I gripped a pillow, squeezing it as hard as I could to distract myself from the pain. It didn’t work, and the pillow exploded, filling the air with white feathers.
A loud pop sounded and then a horrific pain shot through my shoulders. I slumped down and screamed, unable to take the pain.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Liked More/Less Than I Thought I Would

This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is Top Ten Tuesday #100: five books I liked more than I thought I would and five books I liked less than I though I would. Thus my Top ten!

First five books which I liked less than I thought I would

10: Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard: You'll excuse me but I understood from the first pages that this book would be a dystopian-Twilight kind of story. I tried hard to like the characters to even overcome the love triangle but everything were off in this book. I still haven't read the others.

9: Inherit the Stars by Tessa Elwood: The cover is gorgeous but I couldn't immerse myself into the story. I couldn't even understand what was happening half the time.

8: Soundless by Richelle Mead. I read this book right after my bookish marathon on her Vampire Academy series. I couldn't finish the book.

7: Allegiant by Veronica Roth: Yeahhh, I am not going to comment on this one!

6: A whole new world by Liz Braswell: This book was one of my greatest expectations but I was crushed in it. Jafar is a psycho, Aladdin is too immature and the Genie too serious. BUT I do recommend reading her third book "As old as Time"

Five books which I liked more than I thought I would.

5: A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet: Brace your Pegasus people, because THIS is one hell of an amazing book! Greek mythology, magic and romance all in one!

4: As old As Time by Liz Braswell: Third time was the charm with this book. Hint; it's for those who always prefered Beast in his...beastly form. ;)

3: Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh: I never understood why this book got low rating at first. It's a good action prehistoric romance told in second POV. Rare and wonderful. And...hello? You can't have a YA romance with the terms of the 21st century when you have prehistoric animals hunting you for snack!

2: Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones: "The Labyrinth" meets Hades and Persephone in this stunning debut. I'm still gathering my feelings in order to write this review.

1: The Love that Split the world by Emily Henry: I was told that this book had a slow start and a mystery, but I never expected to find myself sobbing over the final pages, because this little gem deserves more!

For Music & Magic! Double Review: "Roseblood" by A.G. Howard & "Caraval" (Caraval #1) by Stephanie Garber

RoseBlood by A.G. Howard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

In this modern day spin on Leroux’s gothic tale of unrequited love turned to madness, seventeen-year-old Rune Germain has a mysterious affliction linked to her operatic talent, and a horrifying mistake she’s trying to hide. Hoping creative direction will help her, Rune’s mother sends her to a French arts conservatory for her senior year, located in an opera house rumored to have ties to The Phantom of the Opera.

At RoseBlood, Rune secretly befriends the masked Thorn—an elusive violinist who not only guides her musical transformation through dreams that seem more real than reality itself, but somehow knows who she is behind her own masks. As the two discover an otherworldly connection and a soul-deep romance blossoms, Thorn’s dark agenda comes to light and he’s forced to make a deadly choice: lead Rune to her destruction, or face the wrath of the phantom who has haunted the opera house for a century, and is the only father he’s ever known.

REVIEW

This book has been one of the most anticipated in my TBR list for winter 2017. Not only it's written by one of my favorite authors, but also it's a retelling/"sequel" for one of the top legends (and pop culture) figure, The Phantom of the Opera!

*cue in the Overture*

*Or not*

Our story is told by a double POV: our main protagonist Rune from the first person POV and the enigmatic Thorn from the third person POV. It doesn't confuse and it's easy to read. Not to mention that getting into knowing both characters, truly resolved some issues I had with the plot at the beginning of the book.

Rune has a marvellous gift. She has the voice of an angel and when she is taken into a private music school at the coutryside of Paris, she is thrust into the mystery and the story of the Phantom. She makes friends and enemies, she explores and learns not only about her gift but also her heritage.

I admit; some parts of the book made me think that the story would evolve differently but I was amazed by the plot twists and the final outcome. There were also moments in the book, where Rune was a little annoying, since she could have asked for help in many cases. But knowing how the Phantom works I could relate with her fear.

What won me was the descriptions and the delicate micro-world building A.G. Howard created for her story. We do see some of Paris, but the details, the colors and the beauty are focused on describing the academy Roseblood and the secrets which lie hidden behind it.

The revealing about the mystery and the backstory was heart-breaking and while the swoon scenes weren't much, the plot can win you with its delicate beauty and unforgettable characters.

About the author:

A.G. Howard is the International and NYT bestselling author of the Splintered Series, with a slew of other classical spinoffs and original stories in the works that she hopes will one day find a place on the shelves.

She was inspired to write her tribute to Carroll's Wonderland while working at a school library. Her pastimes are reading, rollerblading, gardening, and family vacations which often include impromptu side trips to 18th century graveyards or condemned schoolhouses to appease her overactive muse.

SPLINTERED, UNHINGED, ENSNARED, and UNTAMED, the first four books in her urbanized /gothic Alice in Wonderland series, are now available from Amulet Books. Also soon to be available from Amulet is her Phantom of the Opera spinoff, ROSEBLOOD -- slated to launch January 2017.

THE ARCHITECT OF SONG, the first book in her New Adult historical literary romance saga, will be available in August 2016.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

REVIEW

If you loved the "Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern, then you'll also enjoy "Caraval". With a deadly twist of course.

Scarlett and her sister Etta grew up listening to the stories of Caraval, the magic circus where all your dreams can come true and also about its Master, Legend. And despite her dreams Scarlett has to fulfill her duties as the eldest marrying her father's choice of groom.

When the magical invitations to the Caraval arrive, both Scarlett and Etta with the help of Julian, a sailor, will embark into an adventure which may seem like a game but there is also a deadly secret attatched to it.

Caraval was a great read. I enjoyed the descriptions, the secrets, even the romance, which was the kind of "enemies-to-lovers". Both Scarlett and Etta live in an abusive family with a father who is not only the governor but also a kind of mafia boss and a man who also uses his duaghters' love to make them both afraid.

The story is full of mystery with an enigmatic ending, which will also make you carve for more and I will be highly anticipating the next book!

THE POST PROMPT:

What was the first book that moved you? Scared you, made you cry, disturbed your view of the world?

MY ANSWER:

The very first book I read that both scared me and made me cry was the Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. I was 15 years old and I learnt about the war, life in Stalin's Russia, even if it was from fiction. Later when I entered university I found the records in book there too.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A new series by Nazarea Andrews! Though I am not a fun of the BDSM subgenre this book was better than I expected. You think this is a fairytale retteling but it's not that much. Part of the story is told into the club but the main characters also get to know each other outside of it. They fall in lust and then they fall in love.
We are also get to know the other two of Charm's friends and each one will have his tory to tell!

She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, spoiled cat and overgrown dog. She is the author of World Without End series, Neverland Found, Edge of the Falls, and The University of Branton Series.
