Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Summary from GoodReads
A ruthless young assassin continues her journey for revenge in this new epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff.
Assassin Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church ministry think she’s far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she’s no closer to ending Consul Scaeva and Cardinal Duomo, or avenging her familia. And after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia begins to suspect the motives of the Red Church itself.
When it’s announced that Scaeva and Duomo will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself to a gladiatorial collegium for a chance to finally end them. Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold within the collegium walls, and the body count rises, Mia will be forced to choose between loyalty and revenge, and uncover a secret that could change the very face of her world.
Set in the world of Nevernight, which Publishers Weekly called “absorbing in its complexity and bold in its bloodiness,” Godsgrave will continue to thrill and satisfy fantasy fans everywhere.

REVIEW
If you think that you are a hard-core survivor of Jay Kristoff's books, then you are in the right place! Godsgrave is the epic continuation of the Nevernight Chronicles series, which has risen as one of the best NEW ADULT books the YA community has seen!
Murder, politics, plotting and oh so many shadows! This world, a mix of Roman history, religion, magic and sci-fi (because I love to think that there is a solar system with this world in it!) is never boring and always evolving!
Mia has become finally the trained assassin she always wanted, but still she desires the death of the ones who killed her family. When secrets about the Red Church come to the surface, Mia, Mr Kindly and Eclipse, her shadow passengers will go undercover in one of the greatest gladiator contests which takes palce in Godsgrave. There will be present both Scaeva and Duomo, the men who destroyed her family.
So, in as much few words I can muster without spoiling, the second book is "Gladiator" meets assassins, meets...every bit of monster you can think! Through the third POV we get to see not only Mia but other contestants, the collegium Mia poses as a gladiator in training and of course the mystery behind Mia's powers.
The new characters were amazing, complex with every tragic story that followed in this book. No character of Jay Kristoff's is safe! I assure you! The sex in this book? Well, let's just say that you fan yourself right from the beginning (I repeat this is a NEW ADULT). The romance? I liked it but I'll always be shipping Tric and Mia.
Godgrave, though really kicked in pace from the moment Mia arrived on the games. The fighting, the surprises, EVERYTHING was glorious and bloody. If you read my GoodReads progress you'll understand. The footnotes of the book were also really amazing sarcastic and funny.
The ending? Let's just say that I was left in a cliffhanger...again with a big fat nice "Star Wars" moment.
The first book of the series
