My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

She was born the day the world ended…

Nurrin has lived her entire life with zombies—trapped behind walls meant to keep them safe. She’s mostly happy there. But when a zombie horde breach the walls of her Haven, she has to trust her brother, Collin, and his best friend to keep her alive.

He just wants his past to die…

Finn O’Malley has given up on voicing warnings that are ignored. No one cares that the zombies are changing. Now all that matters is keeping Collin and Nurrin safe from what’s outside the walls of a Haven. But when Nurrin’s best friend picks up a contact infection, he agrees to get the medicine needed to save his life. Forced together, relying on each other in a strange Haven, zombies aren’t the most dangerous thing they’re facing.

In their world, only one thing remains true: everything ends in blood.

 REVIEW

I received a copy from Inkslinger in exchange for an honest review.

I have never watched "The Walking Dead" but I was familiar with the zombie-like worlds from "Warm Bodies" movie based on the same novel by Isaac Marion.

But on Nazarea's world we get true anguish, fear, death, more undead and inner turmoil. Nurrin and her brother Collin live in one of the Havens, small pockets of safe humans among the zombie ridden US. When Finn, Collin's friend and Nurrin's nemesis realises that the Havens are going to fall, the three of them set on a jurney among the Wild Open. There they must face not only the zombies but all the hard aspects of cruelty and profit.

Although the book is relatively short, it kept me hooked until the very last page! I never understood why other readers and bloggers (yes I mean you Sarah!) liked reading these apocalyptic ones. Well I now became one of them. Only the idea that you have to live through this hell is agonizing.

And that's the reason why I liked Nurrin. She clings to hope, she is a badass and she loves her brother. On the other hand, Finn is an ass. Period. He is rude, also knows how to swing his sword and gun and his POV is secretive as hell! You need to read the rest of the books if you want to under stand what has happened to him, what shaped him like this.

Their scenes are worth all the zombie repelant since you can see that there is attraction between them. But the world is so hard and savage around them, to the point of fearing the possibility of love.

For those who like guns, zombies and some goos adventure, this book is for you. Did I also mentioned that there is a cliffhanger? Yup, there is that one too!

                              Question of the Week:

How do you decide what books to read? - Suggested by So Many Books, So Little Time

                                                         My answer:

After checking if anyone of my favorite authors have another series or new books, I go book hunting! Either I look on lists from GoodReads, or I search on Netgalley for new books. Preferably my favorite genres. Thrillers and books like "The Fault in our Stars" type are out of question. I don't want crying my eyes out

or be too scared to sleep at night.

It all started with a pinky swear…

Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.

But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.

Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them are in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.

It sounds like fun and games but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.
Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.

The pact is about to change everything.

Guards from the Shadowlands series

REVIEW

I first stumbled upon Sarah Fine after reading Alicia's (from Addicted Readers) review on Sanctum. When I finished that series I was left raw with emotion and seriously addicted to Sarah's writing.

Then, "Of Metal and Wishes" came. Some words flickered on my mind when I read the summary. "Steampunk", "retelling", "Phantom of the Opera"! Especially for the last one you must know that I am a crazy fan.

Set in a Chinese background into a slaughterhouse, where bosses, prejudice against other clans and a strange Ghost rule, Wen, the doctor's daughter tries to come in terms with her mother's death and the people living and working in the factory.

When Melik, a Noor boy, comes to work into the factory and strange accidents set in motion hostility and gory deaths, Wen and Melik will have to surpass even more obstacles than they thought.

Told by Wen's POV the story is rich with history, slowly building the background as she deals with her father, the perveted boss Melik but above all, Ghost. I can't get in many details about him, but his presence is vital to the book since many events are a result of his actions.

The romance between Wen and Melik builds slowly with those furtive moments that make your heart beat faster and even though they both tend to have flaws, making them ever more realistic, Melik and Wen find the courage to fight for those they want to protect and for themselves.

If you seek something different both in the setting and the story Sarah Fine's works are for you!

REVIEW

I recieved an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Aliens, space and adventure as a nice mix on my sci-fi reads. "From a Distant Star" was a quick, action-pced and emotional read with a nice covers and beautiful imagination. Although, it followed the know pattern of possesed boyfriend where girlfrined in question tries to save him, I was surprised by the writing.

We have two POVs: one for Emma and one for Scout. There is a great explanation on the ways of space and quite an interesting prologue. I got to see men in black, Emma trying to do anything to save the boy she loves, which happens to be the one-of-the-kind romances. She is strong and despite the emotional turmoil she suffers and the idiotic parents of her boyfriend, she does everything along with Eric Lucas's brother in order to help him... and the alien.

A nice read, recommended despite the well known plot.

REVIEW

When I was able to buy the new copy of "The Mime Order" I was prepared for more heart-pounding moments of Paige and her Warden. When I also happened to discuss the book with Tika from fANGIRLconfessions she almost tried to spoil me (well almost, but thank you so, so much Tika!)

So, right after their ecspae from Scion, Paige, few survivor and the Seven Dials try to hide away from the Rephaim, the dictatorship of the Sargas and mostly try to find a way to stop the incoming measures against claivorcants.

The first almost-half of the book was a big stage setting. Paige had a lot fighting scenes to the point of maing me feel sorry for her. She never got a chance to rest and Warden was absent. He does appear later and every page was a new relevation as I wanted to get more moments between Paige and Warden.

The both know their feelings and they must hide them from everyone. The Rephaim also make an appearance, always threatening but I get the feeling that there will be a compromise on the sagas.
As for the ending? After all the action I got to the last part of the book, I didn't expect, EVER to see this change on the characters. Nothing will ever be the same after that last scene.

I will patiently wait for the next book, but of course as a loyal crazy book blogger I will demand the next copy to come out NOW!

                              Question of the Week:

How do you cure a book hangover/blogging slump/reading slump? - Suggested by Take Me Away...

                                                      My answer:

I still haven't suffered a blogging slump, since I am new to blogging and I enjoy it so far. As for reading slump, I simply re-read books or try to find new and add on my TBR list. Another way is to connect with authors, especially through twitter. There are many books which haven't yet be discovered!
