ARC Review: "Bookish and the Beast" (Once Upon a Con #3) by Ashley Poston

Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

In the third book in Ashley Poston's Once Upon a Con series, Beauty and the Beast is retold in the beloved Starfield universe.

Rosie Thorne is feeling stuck—on her college application essays, in her small town, and on that mysterious General Sond cosplayer she met at ExcelsiCon. Most of all, she’s stuck in her grief over her mother’s death. Her only solace was her late mother’s library of rare Starfield novels, but even that disappeared when they sold it to pay off hospital bills.

On the other hand, Vance Reigns has been Hollywood royalty for as long as he can remember—with all the privilege and scrutiny that entails. When a tabloid scandal catches up to him, he's forced to hide out somewhere the paparazzi would never expect to find him: Small Town USA. At least there’s a library in the house. Too bad he doesn’t read.

When Rosie and Vance’s paths collide and a rare book is accidentally destroyed, Rosie finds herself working to repay the debt. And while most Starfield superfans would jump at the chance to work in close proximity to the Vance Reigns, Rosie has discovered something about Vance: he’s a jerk, and she can’t stand him. The feeling is mutual.

But as Vance and Rosie begrudgingly get to know each other, their careful masks come off—and they may just find that there’s more risk in shutting each other out than in opening their hearts.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Ashley Poston returns to her wonderful world of geeks, fans and lovers o sci-fi in this third installment of her "Once Upon a Con" series! And it couldn't be better as this is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, in a beautiful setting with libraries, cute dogs a spoiled actor and a young girl who is also strong and brave and every bit a contemporary Belle.

Vance is "exiled" to a castle-house by his stepfather as his actions resulted in him being the black sheep in the cinema and tv industry. But when Rosie literally falls into his life, they will both discover that their shared love for the book series they both know and their common hardships can bring them closer and well..." there might be something there that wasn't there before".

This was a very cute book. It was light-hearted and funny with a dose of references to the book series every character in this story knows. Seriously I think that Ashley Poston should write this book series just so I can read it!

I liked the growth of Vance from a spoiled boy to a maturing man. Rosie's influence and her kindness also played a role. And the cameos from the other characters from the other books were also a great touch!

Definitely recommended!
