REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Well, this was a wild ride! After the Beauty and the Beast-inspired "A Curse so Dark and Lonely" I was very happy for the chance to read the e-ARC...and have no one to vent my feeling to after finishing the book!

The story focuses now on Grey, the trusted guard of Rhen who after a revelation that can shake the foundations of the kingdom, escapes, hoping to be considered dead and also keep his friends safe. On the other hand, the enemy Queen of Emberfall, Karis Luran, sends her daughters in the hopes of marrying one to Prince Rhen. Lia Mara, the eldest and not the heir, believes that peace can be achieved without war.

Through a twisted game of chance and luck both Grey and Lia Mara join forces as the truth is revealed and they travel through Emberfall, seeking sanctuary and the chance for an alliance.

What I did like here was the heavy character development; both Grey and Lia Mara have difficult obstacles to overcome and the romance that develops between them was slow and sweet. Despite the feeling that Rhen was villanized in the sequel, either by Lia Mara and sometimes Grey thought the same, the final chapter of the book revealed the truth!

I so didn't expect this plot twist and much was explained with the final words! Brigid Kemmerer succeeds in creating a sequel worthy of its predecessor with the characters we all love having to face more trials and overcome them.

And don't miss the first book of the series, an imaginative twist on Beauty and the Beast!
