REVIEW

The thrilling sequel to Emma Hamm's world of dragons features lots and lots of angst! And secrets and hidden societies and also has a jaw-dropping ending that will either make you howl (because of the cliffhanger) or wish for the Tardis in order to go into the future and get the next book!

Sigrid and Nadir both face their own natures both as humans and as dragons and they get their own personal growth. In a way, they become the two sides of the same coin as they balance each other, despite the rising tensions and the uncertain future. With the cast of both new and old characters, this sequel is a hidden gem filled with lush descriptions and wonderful storytelling!

About the author:

I am from a very small rural town in Maine. I grew up amid blueberry fields, a farm full of animals, and surrounded by family. It was one of the best ways for a child to grow up. Horses blew puffs of sweet smelling breath in my hair, goats teased me until I giggled, and someone who loved me was always there to pick me up when I fell. I am truly blessed to have grown up in such a fashion.
The love of creative story telling started when I was very young. I used to “act out” the way a story should have gone and argued with my mother constantly about the endings of movies. I wrote a little bit, and eventually found myself in the online writing community. My love of characters blossomed and grew thanks to the ever vigilante parents who convinced me that imagination was one of the greatest gifts of the human mind. I wrote, I created, I read as many books as I could next to the fireplace.

summary from GoodReads

I had a sister, once…

In a world ruled by fierce warrior queens, a grand empire was built upon the backs of Phoenix Riders—legendary heroes who soared through the sky on wings of fire—until a war between two sisters ripped it all apart.

I promised her the throne would not come between us.

Sixteen years later, Veronyka is a war orphan who dreams of becoming a Phoenix Rider from the stories of old. After a shocking betrayal from her controlling sister, Veronyka strikes out alone to find the Riders—even if that means disguising herself as a boy to join their ranks.

But it is a fact of life that one must kill or be killed. Rule or be ruled.

Just as Veronyka finally feels like she belongs, her sister turns up and reveals a tangled web of lies between them that will change everything. And meanwhile, the new empire has learned of the Riders’ return and intends to destroy them once and for all.

Sometimes the title of queen is given. Sometimes it must be taken.

REVIEW

Ahhh the beauty of covers that make you wish you were:
A) an animage
B) having your own beautiful Phoenix!

In a world of warrior queens, something you don't see often in books, riders of brave and proud Pheonixes are exiled after the fall of their warrior queen. Veronyka and her sister Val are desperately looking for abandoned phoenix eggs in order to hatch them and become Riders themselves. But there are more to the long lost past of the fallen empire and those who are closest to Veronyka are not who they seem to be. Also I need to mention that I hate Val! Like I am placing her to the second place of my hating list after Tarryn from Cruel Prince! That much!

This was a great book! Filled with 4 different POVs, expanded world-building and action scenes, I do believe this book would be an amazing tv series with the special effects from Game of Thrones! And the ending? Holly wow I didn't see that coming.
